Gwenda Compton Lindley, age 84 of Breckenridge, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 30 at Morehart Mortuary with Sherry Saunders officiating. Services have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary.

Gwenda Vee Compton was born February 2, 1937 in Shackelford County, Texas to Charles Henry Compton and Eugenia Marie Stapp Compton. She grew up in the Eolian community and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1954. She worked for C.J. Eden, Attorney at Law, for many years. After Mr. Eden became a district judge, Gwenda became the court coordinator for Stephens and Young Counties until her retirement. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and helped with Team Kids, the church clothes closet, and the church library. In previous years, she was a volunteer for the Stephens Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve Lindley; and three sisters, Donna Jean Compton, Sue Hibbert, and Colene Allen.

Mrs. Lindley is survived by her children, Pam Langford and husband Jon of Breckenridge, Kim Howell and husband Roger of Stephens County, and Bob Baber of Rome, Italy; her grandchildren, Cash Langford, Lacey Kaylor, Hannah Udell, Link Lowrance, Libby Lowrance, and Dakota Howell; great grandchildren, KayLee Langford, Kinsley Kaylor, Brecken Udell, Baylor Udell, Scout Lowrance, and Cohen Lowrance; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Battle Creek Cemetery Association or Meals on Wheels and may be left at Morehart Mortuary. Condolences may be made online at morehartmortuary.net.
