Jenice Bacon, 91, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, at her home in Eastland. Funeral service were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 at Morehart Mortuary, 1101 W. Walker, Breckenridge, with CLP Katherine Mehaffey officiating. Private burial followed at the Breckenridge Cemetery. Jenice was born July 28, 1933 in Breckenridge, to H.H. and Eddith Roberson Mehaffey, and was the seventh of their ten children. Jenice attended Breckenridge Public Schools, and worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. Jenice married Joe T. Bacon on Dec. 14, 1957 in Amarillo. During their marriage, Jenice and Joe lived in South Carolina and Illinois while Joe was in the Air Force. Later, with Joe working for the US Postal Service, their family lived in Breckenridge and Graham, and Joe and Jenice moved to Fort Worth after Joe’s retirement. After Joe’s death in 2012, Jenice lived in Eastland to be near extended family, including her oldest brother, Aaron, who died in 2020.
Jenice was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Stacy Erin Finger and her husband Tom; brothers, Aaron Art, Howard Leon, Thomas Claude, Robert Joe, Maurice Rogers Mehaffey; sisters, Patty Lorese Russell, Estrella Cooper, and Eddith Sue Thompson.
She is survived by her son, Troy Dean Bacon and his wife Beatrice of Fort Worth; brother, Terry Hughes Mehaffey of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Samantha Capetillo and husband Jeremy of Aubrey, JoAnna Jimenez and husband Junior of Graham, Jennifer Hosein and husband Feraz of Azle, Thomas Finger and wife Laura of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Christina Shipley and husband Rob of Cave City, Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Julian Jimenez, Asher Rodriguez, Liam Banner, Landen, Averie, and Presten Capetillo, Ezra, Aria, and Enzo Hosein, and Jarek Finger.
Jenice is remembered by her family, including a large number of nieces and nephews, and friends, as a compassionate woman who enjoyed gardening, cooking, learning about her world and the many wonders of it. She enjoyed feeding birds, her stray cats, and any other wildlife that was fortunate enough to wander into proximity to Jenice. Jenice was a woman of strong faith and high energy, and she will be greatly missed by all who love her.
