Mary Ann “Polly” Musgrove Pitzer, 90, of Breckenridge, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on Sunday, Feb. 13. A Requiem Mass was held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19 at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. A reception followed in the Parish Hall. Services were entrusted to Morehart Mortuary. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 200 N. Easton in Breckenridge.

Mary Ann was born March 17, 1931 in Vernon, to Dale and Glenn Musgrove. A St. Patrick’s Day baby, the doctor who delivered her exclaimed she doesn’t look like a Mary Ann... she looks like a Polly, and the name stuck. Polly moved to Breckenridge when she was in junior high, graduated from Breckenridge High School and went on to study art at TCU. After graduation, she married Phil Pitzer and raised 3 boys in Breckenridge. She was very involved in her boys’ lives and kept her art work confined to painting sets for the Breckenridge Boys Choir shows as well as helping with Boy Scouts projects. As her sons grew older, she used her God-given talent more and more. She took workshops from many famous artists who recognized her talent and encouraged her to spend more time painting. Often traveling to New Mexico with friends, she spent time painting and recognized her specialty was portraits. She was honored to paint portraits of many of her friend’s children. Her youngest son, Clay, inherited her love of art and became a talented bronze artist. A piece of his work, as well as a painting of Polly’s, is part of the permanent collection of the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center.

Polly had a fabulous sense of style and a love of shopping and travel, taking trips with her “Kindergarten Group”, “Bridge Group”, and other artist friends. “Camp Pitzer” was held for a week each summer in Alto, New Mexico with her six grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Poppy”. These trips included attending Indian dances, building forts, hiking and cherry-picking.

Polly was devoted to her church at St. Andrew’s. She served on the Altar Guild, President of the Women’s Group, and loved being an active participant in the Women’s Bible Study. Her faith shone brightly through all the ups and downs of life, and she was a rock to many others suffering from life’s trials.

The family is so grateful to all of her caretakers, Lily, Rex, Margie, Jane Ann, Brittoni, Courtney, Shelby, Lynn, Jena, along with the staff at Clear Path, the nurses at Stephens Memorial Hospital, Solaris Hospice and Dr. Kelli Windsor and her staff. They made life so much easier for Polly and she loved them dearly.

Polly was preceded in death by sons, Marc and Clay; and her special friend, Jim Lawrence. She is survived by her son Greg and wife Lisa; 12 grandchildren, Ash and Ashley Stoker, Clark and Katie Pitzer, Scott and Abbie Pitzer, Mary and Lee Blue, Paul and Kristen Pitzer, Adele and Stephen Reckling; 12 great grandchildren, the youngest being her namesake – Poppy Blue; as well as three nieces and one nephew.
