Aug. 17, 1954 – Feb. 18, 2022

Mya Kathryn Swanson Ebeling was the first-born daughter of Howard and Patricia Swanson on Aug. 17, 1954, in Breckenridge. A smiling blonde beauty, her childhood was full of adventures with her younger sister, Lisa, on the Muleshoe Ranch. Despite her petite stature, she raised award-winning steers and heifers in 4-H. After graduating from Breckenridge High school, she traveled abroad with her sister before attending Principia College in Elsah, Ill.; Texas Tech in Lubbock, and ultimately graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology.

Mya met the love of her life, Dr. Lynn Ebeling, at a cattle auction when her mother prompted her to speak to the shy fellow standing alone. They were married three days after her 21st birthday and bought their first home in Bryan, Texas where their children, Amber, and Slater, were born. Lynn and Mya celebrated their 46th anniversary in 2021.

In 1982, the family moved to Amarillo. Mya was a devoted mother and wife who unselfishly prioritized the needs of the family over her own - overseeing the household, supporting the career of her husband, and chauffeuring to countless piano, 4-H, and sporting events.

Mya was a devoted Christian Scientist. She was an active practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal and a long-time member and contributor to The Church of Christ, Scientist in Amarillo.
In remembering Mya, it is her selfless and genuine interest in others that is repeatedly mentioned. She could remember the names, birthdays, and phone numbers of a broad swath of acquaintances. She never failed to inquire about the well-being of friends, and her curiosity and attention was both enthusiastic and sincere. Her greatest quality was perhaps her capacity to make others feel special, appreciated, and valued. Her unfaltering faith and ability to recognize perfection in mankind made her a champion to many. Her prayers, love, and support continue to have resounding impact.

Mya passed peacefully Friday, Feb. 18, in the arms of her husband, in Amarillo. Mya is survived by her husband, Lynn Ebeling; daughter, Amber Bartosh; son, Slater Ebeling; and sister, Lisa Echols. A service for family and friends to share memories will occur at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at the Amarillo Botanical Gardens. In the spirit of Mya’s generosity, the family encourages memorial gifts to the charity of your choice.
