Former Breckenridge resident Walter Daniel “Danny” Flatters, 75, passed away Thursday, March 21 at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma after a brief illness.
A Memorial Service and Interment of Ashes will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11 at the Breckenridge Cemetery, conducted by Reverend Samantha Chambers of the First Methodist Church in Breckenridge. Hopkins-Reynolds Funeral Home in Collinsville, Oklahoma, directed the cremation services.

Danny Flatters was born in Abilene on June 1, 1948, to John Robert Flatters and wife, Virginia Robeson Flatters. His great-grandparents were Marquis L. Martin and wife, Susan Virginia Martin, who brought their family from east Texas to Breckenridge in 1906, including Danny’s grandmother, Clara Martin Robeson. Danny grew up in Breckenridge and graduated from Breckenridge High School and attended Cisco Junior College. In his early years, Danny worked with his parents as a bookkeeper in Breckenridge but later went to work for the H.O.W. Foundation as a manager in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He retired in 2013. Danny was a talented musician and played guitar in several local 60’s bands in the heyday of Rock ‘n Roll. Danny was a gifted artist, an all-star player in youth baseball and played basketball for the Breckenridge Buckaroos.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Andrew Flatters; and his beloved aunt and uncle, Pansy Robeson Pace and husband, Edwin O. Pace, who played such a big part in the early years of his life.
Danny was never married and is survived by several cousins, Ramona Beth Kile of Lubbock, Sandra Wohlford Rockman of Evans, Georgia, Brad Willingham of Woodson, Arlissa Willingham Shober of Itaska, John Hood of Hobbs, New Mexico, Brenda Hood Guthrie of Brownwood, and Mark Martin, formerly of Breckenridge and now Granbury.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Methodist Church in Breckenridge, the Marquis Martin Scholarship.
