Woodson News

I had a great Thanksgiving last week, but I am thankful that giving thanks may happen anytime. Most days, I remember to give thanks for just being able to get out of bed — then, I start asking for things, like “let it be a good day” or “please protect those I know and love” or “give me strength.” I am thankful we can do that. Sometimes I forget to mention how grateful I am, but I truly am grateful to my parents, grandfolks, husband, children, friends, pastor, co-workers, and even to my students for challenging me to be better each day. Thank you for being exactly who you are.

Happy Birthday Savanna Sullivan, Lainey Townsley and Brody Mathiews. And, Happy Birthday Dear Elwana and Jean. Happy Birthday Delores Peacock. And, just in case I missed it, Happy Birthday Margaret Mathiews, again. As Julianna Miller sings, “… and many more.”

Stock show season is fast approaching, if you’d like to donate, please send a check to TCJLS, c/o Tacy Ellis, 427 S.US Hwy 183, Woodson, 76491. Thanks for supporting our kids.

This week was exciting at the store for Saturday lunch. The Griders, Pam and Leland Terry of Haskell, and the Davis “Boys” (well, that’s how I remember them) were all there to say hello. The Walkers were there, too and join me in praying for his eye. It was just good to see friends and old students.

Junior High UIL will held the first week of December. Thanks for supporting the kids in these endeavors.

All-District Academic Volleyball Honors are released, and Woodson had quite a few. However, I cannot open the document. I will send the names next week. Look throughout the paper, Mr. Adams did send the list.

The Woodson FFA competed at the district level on Wednesday Nov. 14, with Farm Broadcasting, Ag Advocacy and Junior Creed advancing to area contest on Nov. 19. Teams placed fifth, tenth and eighth at the Area IV Contest, respectively. Congratulations.

The Woodson High School Basketball Tournament will be Nov. 29 through Dec 1.

The fifth through eighth graders won the NHS Food Drive and received a popcorn party on Nov. 20. Way to go, kids. If you have items or donations for the food bank, ever, email me and I will get them delivered.

Still need extra prayers for Alene Forrest. Pam Allen received some good news.

Our prayer list may be long, but it is only a glimpse of those who need our prayers. Please offer prayers for Kay and Teddy, Felicia Gotschall, Terry Armstrong, Dale Deaton, Sr., Janice Davenport, Greg Dunlap, June and Arliss Willingham, Rusty Caraway, Vicki Sadler, Annette Harper, Lee Cannon, Ashlee Gray, Minerva Whitfield, Otis Hibbitts, Bruce and Keron Kinyon, Jeanie Stoker, Novella Gilbreath, Mae and Keith Boyd, Dee and Carolyn Tate, Bill Thompson and Treon, Arie Herring, Jean Brockman, Alex and Marilyn Dickie, Barbara and LB Atkinson, Linda Dean, Dr. Thora Thurn, Modelle Ellis, David Baxley, and Charlene and Odell Kite.

Please pray for Kelcey Cruser, while he is away serving our country. Pray for all military and our nation. Please pray for our school, educators, students, and community.

Hog trappin’ is in full gear now that it is drying up a little. Greg Brockman said they caught a 305 pound sow and a 250 pound boar at the back of our lake. They may win their own contest for the largest hog. Get out there and trap those porcine units.

Mayor Mathiews was disappointed that I forgot what he said last week, but he couldn’t remember either, so I think we are good. He did tell me he is thankful.

I hope that all of you were blessed at Thanksgiving and that those blessings continue. I hope we all are blessed to recognize the gifts we have been given.

See ya next week. Keep giving thanks.
