The Honoring Veterans Day Cel- our Veterans

Wed, 11/14/2018 - 12:00 am

Woodson News

The Veterans Day Celebration was very nice. Here’s a thought: why honor our veterans only on special days? Why not honor our veterans every day and make each day as special for them? As a matter of fact, why not honor our neighbors and our parents too? I believe there is a book of instruction on that.

The Woodson JH OAP performed for the public on Monday, Nov. 12, and their contest was Tuesday. We are awaiting results. Junior High UIL will held the first week of December. Thanks for supporting the kids in these endeavors. Happy Birthday to Mary O’Dell, Claire Marie Ellis, and Jennifer Mathiews.

Happy Anniversary to Nanci and David Baxley. The Woodson Cowboys have secured their spot in the playoffs. The first game is Nov. 16.

Thank you to the Church of Christ for sponsoring the final Fifth Quarter. The Woodson FFA won the sweepstakes at the Tarleton State University Invitational LDE Contest.

Basketball has begun. The Woodson Junior High Tournament will be Saturday, Nov. 17. The Woodson High School Tournament will be Nov. 29 through Dec. 1. The Thanksgiving Holidays will begin on Nov. 21 and kids will return to school on Monday Nov. 26 .

There will be some benchmark testing going on the few days before Thanksgiving, so it’s important the kids be at school. It is always important that the kids be at school.

Well, the 4H scavenger hunt was cancelled due to many other events being scheduled at the same time. However, if you would like to donate food to the county’s food bank, bring it to the school or call 940-345-6521, and I bet you could get your food donation picked up. The Woodson NHS is having a food drive through next week. You can email me and I will swing by and take it up to school.

Still need extra prayers for Alene Forrest.

Our prayer list may be long, but it is only a glimpse of those who need our prayers. Please offer prayers for Kay and Teddy, Felicia Gotschall, Terry Armstrong, Pam Allen (especially her eye), Dale Deaton, Sr., Janice Davenport, Greg Dunlap, June and Arliss Willingham, Earlene Bellah, Rusty Caraway, Vicki Sadler, Annette Harper, Lee Cannon, Ashlee Gray, Minerva Whitfield, Otis Hibbitts, Bruce and Keron Kinyon, Jeanie Stoker, Novella Gilbreath, Mae and Keith Boyd, Dee and Carolyn Tate, Bill Thompson and Treon, Arie Herring, Jean Brockman, Alex and Marilyn Dickie, Barbara and LB Atkinson, Linda Dean, Dr. Thora Thurn, Modelle Ellis, David Baxley, Baby Jarett, “Aunt Lola,” and Charlene and Odell Kite.

Please pray for Kelcey Cruser, while he is away serving our country. Pray for all military and our nation. Please pray for our school, educators, students, and community.

Mayor Mathiews missed me this week.

Also, it has been mentioned to me how nice our cemetery and the Throckmorton Cemetery are looking. So, if you see Gary and Tommi Hagle, give them a shout out for jobs well done.

Thank you.

My daughter wrote an essay honoring veterans. In researching and asking questions, she found that, just in our family, and just back through WWI, there are eight veterans in three generations. Share your family history with your children. We begin to think that children know what we know, but, in reality, anything before the beginning of cell phones is fuzzy. Put the cell phones down. Talk with your kids. Teach them to honor.

We honor our veterans and their families for their sacrifices. Thank you, veterans, thank you.

On a personal note, thanks Daddy, and thank you, Momma.
