Woodson News

In Woodson, the school is the hub of the community. School is a community within itself. We sort of form a big family. Dec. 5, some of our students lost their mother, Felecia Gotschall, when she could no longer battle cancer. Our heartfelt love, compassion, and prayers go out to this family in their time of grief. We are all here, when you need us; we share your loss.

“While a joy shared is doubled, a sorrow shared is halved.”

The Throckmorton County Junior Livestock Show would appreciate your support. To donate in any way and in any amount, please send a check to TCJLS, c/o Tacy Ellis, 427 S. US Hwy 183, Woodson, 76491. Thanks for supporting our kids.

Congratulations Woodson Junior High and Woodson Elementary UIL Students. Third place at district. Way to go. Graford and Perrin-Whitt may have beaten us this year, but there is always next year. Hang in there you academicians.

Community Christmas Eve Service will be held at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Woodson. Come and share this beautiful celebration of the eve of Christ’s birth. Everyone is welcome.

The Germans are coming at Christmas (it’s only six of them and they are staying with us).

I would never tell a lady’s age but June Willingham, who is a lovely lady, has so much class, she can handle it. June is an octogenarian plus eight, as of Dec. 7, 2018. Happy Birthday to you, June. We love you.

Also on the birthday list are Sam Mills, Thora Thurn (hi momma), Mark Ellis, Mary Bellah, Emmanuel Rosales, Austin Nelson and Eloy Rosales. Happy birthday to you.

Happy anniversary to Resa and Dale Deaton. Happy thirty-eighth anniversary to Tacy and Mark Ellis.

The Woodson Basketball Tournament has come and gone — so has half the year.

The Throckmorton Tour of Homes has been postponed until Sunday, Dec. 16, due to the weather that came through last weekend. It is still from 2 to 4 p.m.

Cow Country Christmas will be held on Dec. 12, at the Throckmorton County show barn. More good stuff. Come out and do a little shopping.

Want to go caroling? Everyone is welcome to come on down to the Throckmorton County Courthouse about 5:30 p.m. We’ll sing for about an hour and then, as we disperse, the 4H kids will ride a “Hayless Hayride” to the Youth Center for their Christmas party, which is the meeting for December. A can of food is 4H admission. If you would like to bring a Food Pantry donation of canned food to the caroling, 4Hers will collect it and deliver it to the county food pantry. I hear the pantry is low on soup and fruits, especially.

Please offer prayers for the family of Felicia Gotschall. She left this world on Dec. 5, 2018. Services were held Sunday.

Terry Armstrong is doing pretty well and is very thankful to all who are helping her get to her appointments.

Please send your love and prayers for Gwen, Curtis and Sissy Atkinson’s mother.

Alene Forrest was at church Sunday. So good to have her back.

I saw Frankie Whitfield in Coalson’s last weekend. He approved me putting him on the prayer list with Minerva.

John Brandon Northam had surgery Tuesday. We pray he is recuperating well.

Please offer prayers for Kay and Teddy Clark, Dale Deaton, Sr., Janice Davenport, Greg Dunlap, June and Arliss Willingham, Rusty Caraway, Vicki Sadler, Annette Harper, Lee Cannon, Ashlee Gray, Otis Hibbitts, Bruce and Keron Kinyon, Jeanie Stoker, Novella Gilbreath, Mae and Keith Boyd, Dee and Carolyn Tate, Bill Thompson and Treon, Jean Brockman, Alex and Marilyn Dickie, Barbara and LB Atkinson, Linda Dean, Dr. Thora Thurn, Modelle Ellis, David Baxley, and Charlene and Odell Kite, Kelly Pate, Pam Allen, Terry Armstrong and Heather Mathiews.

Please pray for Kelcey Cruser, and pray for all military and our nation. Please pray for our school, educators, students, and community.

Abner is still missing. But, our blind cat came home.

School will dismiss on Dec. 21 for the holidays, and it will resume on Jan. 8, after the county stock show.

Mayor Mathiews had no quotable quotes or quips this week, just his sincere wishes for your health, happiness and well-being during this holiday season.
