On Saturday, Sept. 1, the Breckenridge Bass Club held their annual scholarship tournament at Hubbard Creek Lake. This year’s tournament saw 32 anglers participate, 15 of them weighing in a total of 32 fish, which weighed a cumulative total of 115.96 pou

Woodson News

I made a mistake. I’ll fix it: The Woodson Grocery does not close until 6 on weekdays. It is open late on Wednesday. At least I got that part right. Also, help wanted, they need to hire someone either full or part time. If you need to work, go apply.

And please, if you are the ones littering the streets of Woodson, please stop. Don’t let trash blow out of your truck beds. This past weekend, with the extra traffic, I have picked up so much trash from the bar ditch. Please be responsible and keep Woodson clean.

On Sept.14, Fifth Quarter will be hosted by the First Christian Church. And, on homecoming weekend, Sept. 28, the First Baptist Church will host. The Church of Christ hosted on Sept. 7. Thank you.

The First Christian Church has a covered dish dinner following the service on Sept. 16.

Well, Mayor Mathiews has had a dream. Seems that he received a phone call and the voice on the other end said, “the pastures will be green, the wheat crop will be lush, and it will be a wet fall.” Then the voice paused and said, “Oops. Wrong number.”

I ran into Bill and Treon Thompson in Breckenridge. They are doing well but we are keeping Bill on the prayer list. He was up and moving and looked good. And, Treon is the same friendly Treon we know and love. You’re on my list.

We do welcome the dove hunters to Woodson. But still, don’t shoot my Aoudad. She’s wearing an orange collar and still hanging out with my goats and my three chickens and my daughter’s heifer.

The volleyball girls were home on Sept. 11 but off to Strawn on Sept. 15 at 10 a.m.

If you’re up for a Cowboy game, they are home again on Sept. 14 but head to Newcastle on Sept. 21. Don’t forget the Fifth Quarters.

The junior high volleyball season kicked off on Sept. 4 at ACHS in Abilene. Next up is Ranger, Newcastle and the Hawley Tournament.

The JH football season begins here on Sept. 14 against Trent, followed by Newcastle here on Sept. 20.

The West Texas Fair and Rodeo is on. Landon Buse, Kiki Buse, Claire Ellis and the Miller Girls all showed. Results next week.

Call the school, if you have a 3-year-old through Pre-K student, who would like to be an escort for the coronation, at 940-345-6521, by Sept. 21.

Are you on the pie list?

Call the school if you know you have a parade entry.

The Booster Club will have homemade chili at the homecoming carnival.

Snakes are moving.

Please continue prayers for June and Arliss, Lee Cannon, Alene (who finally has a doctor appointment next week), Vicki Carruthers, Minerva Whitfield, Otis Hibbitts, Kay and Teddy Clark, Bruce and Keron Kinyon, Jeanie Stoker, Novella Gilbreath, Pam Allen, Mae and Keith Boyd, Dee and Carolyn Tate, Arie Herring, Jean Brockman, Alex and Marilyn Dickie, Barbara and LB Atkinson, Bill Thompson and Treon, Linda Dean, Modelle Ellis, Don Kuykendall, David Baxley, Baby Jarett, “Aunt Lola,” and Charlene and Odell Kite.

Please pray for the safe return of Kelcey Cruiser from his deployment.

Please pray for our school, educators, students, community, county, all military and our nation.

Keep praying for rain.

The next Fifth Sunday Gospel Singing is Sept. 30, at the First Baptist Church of Throckmorton at 6 p.m. A nice way to slow down after homecoming.

Well, Mayor Mathiews said something else a few weeks ago, “We need a rain to get a rain.” We had a little bit of rain, so it is time to get a rain. Maybe the mayoral dream is untrue.

Three weeks of school down.

Again, good luck, dovies. Good luck hunters. And the Woodson Grocery is open until 6 p.m. And Wednesday until 8 p.m. Sorry about the mistake.
