This is a letter from the Breckenridge American staff to the community and Cindi Woodward. We want to thank you for your services and contribution to the newspaper.

Not too long ago, the Breckenridge American received a facelift from a surprising source. This all happened because Cindi Woodward renewed her subscription to the Breckenridge American. She came into the office, chatted as we often do, and made some comments about the building. And she was right, the building was certainly not up to par with the Breckenridge spirit.

So she asked if we minded if she spruced it up a bit. Of course not, why on earth would we turn it down? I thought well how can we get the owners to do it? Woodward had a simple solution, saying she will do it at no cost. No cost? Really? The thought loomed, there has to be a catch somewhere. People don’t just do nice things for other people anymore. Unfortunately, society as a whole has become the “me and mine” school of thought. Anyone that knows her is aware that she’s the exception to the rule. She gives her time and money to make things as they should be. We were thrilled but still with some reservation. Woodward showed up the next day with one of many workers that helped turn the Breckenridge American building into the Spirit of Breckenridge and not just another drab, rundown long ago forgotten building. History will tell us that plaster and paint don’t last forever, so occasionally maintenance is necessary.

If you don’t know Miss Cindi, just look around Breckenridge and you will see her Buckeroo green spirit is everywhere. Just take a look down Walker street especially during football season. The entire fence on her property has great big spirit boards with the football players number and name on it. She is by far the proudest citizen that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Without her compassion and “get ‘er done” spirit, the building would be bare and peeling. We wouldn’t have beautiful new outdoor lights and planters, along with a new pole for our sign. She didn’t do it alone. Several local tradesmen made this happen. So we at the Breckenridge American would like to thank Cindi Woodward and the following people in connection with this remodel:

James Boggs, James Knight, Joe Wimberley, Dale Madison and Emilio Perez, for the outside works on the paint, debris removal, and flagpole. Also assisting with the transformation was Tony Garcia with Keen Electric for wiring the new lights and spotlight for our flag. None of this would have been possible without all of you.

Thank you again,

sincerely,

The Breckenridge American Staff
