Woodson News: Fire!

Wed, 08/19/2020 - 5:00 am

Fires ravaged the land north of Woodson on Sunday night. The 1710 fire broke out for the 4th time, the Murray Circle fire began and was finally extinguished by the rain, there was a fire near Bushknob, and a fire on Airport Road near Throckmorton, and a fire near Shawvers, and a fire near or on the Clark ranch just west of Throckmorton, and, well, you get the picture! It was a horrible time!

Volunteer fire departments were at work from Woodson, Throckmorton, Newcastle, Murray, Graham, Eliasville and everywhere else! THANK YOU, FIREFIGHTERS!

The fires kicked off around 8 PM, just as the front blew through from the north. Now, when I say, “blew through,” I mean BLEW! As I write, I await light to see what damage the wind caused.

The first week of school went well! There are 158 enrolled in Woodson.

The volleyball girls are playing together and winning some games! Their season should continue to go well! I will get you a schedule and then you can attend a few games and support the Cowgirls!

The Cowboys are hard at work, preparing for their Six-Man season. They are working together and team morale is high, despite the cancellation of the first scrimmage. I will get you a football schedule, too.

Monday was the FFA Beginning of the year Blowout! Fun for all!

This week, at our house, we have hopefully bred heifers, and are successfully preparing for my knee surgery – yep, blew the knee. But, no worries, I will be in full swing by November! The doc kept saying that besides the injury, there was “wear and tear, consistent with age!” I hurt my knee just before my birthday! HA!

Speaking of birthdays, the Happy August Birthday to Alene Forrest! Sabrina Siebert! Vicki Carruthers! Derrick Robles! Josh Hewlett, Gayle Dyer, Bucky Kuykendall, Dennis Peacock, and Upton Dean! If there are more, send me the names!

Happy Anniversary to Eric and Mary O’Dell! Happy Anniversary to Randall and Shirley Forrest!

Bob Carruthers had a special visitor; his 103 year old mother was able to come out to Woodson this past weekend.

We had a visitor last week, as Sarah Ellis came home to be with her old mom for my birthday, and help me move around. She had to return to Austin, but will be back! I am grateful! And, I was blessed to have family around for my birthday!

Please pray for James Potts, Earlene Bellah, Alene Forrest, Brody Mathiews, TD Shawver, Thora and Paul Thurn, Misty Lawson, Jean Brockman, Dale Deaton, Sr., Treon Thompson, Carolyn and Dee Tate, Susan Ayers, Ada Smith, Dean Singleton, Kelvin Singleton, Linda Dean, Aletha Creech, Charlene Kite, Frankie and Minerva, Janice Devenport, June and Arliss Willingham, Py Brown, Greg Dunlap, Otis and Delorah Hibbitts, Jeannie and Johnny Stoker, Ron and Vicki Saddler, Pam Allen, Barbara and LB, Carolyn Tate, and Johnny Vickers. If you have others for the list, please let me know at tacylte@gmail.com.

The PTA has met and has plans underway! A big thank you to them for the welcome back supplies and buckets for the teachers!

A prayer meeting was held on Sunday, the 9th, on Cowboy Field. Thank you to all who prayed for the school, the administration, the faculty and staff, and especially, the WISD students.

Hopefully the fires are out for good! We are thankful that no lives were lost. Please pray for rain. It seems to be the solution.

I haven’t been out and about much, so I missed Mayor Mathiews this week. I hope you all are able to continue more “normally” with your lives. Please stay healthy. Know that you are loved!
