Woodson News: In Full Swing

Ah, the dog days of summer! Hot, dry, no breeze, and calm… NOT! Well, not the calm part! School has brought the town of Woodson back to life and it is in full swing! We are already in our third week! Hard to believe. Before we know it, it will be next summer!

Thank you, again to our VFD, as firefighters had at least two calls this past week. These are folks who truly know the meaning of the word “volunteer.”

The Cowgirls didn’t win in Knox City this past weekend, but their experience and skills will come together this week as the varsity girls face Moran, here at home, at 10 AM. Come watch some bumps, sets, spikes and wins!

The Cowboys will begin their season at Strawn on Thursday, August 27, at 6:30 PM, facing off against Oglesby. Come support them, if you are able.

FFA kids are gearing up for the West Texas Fair and Rodeo! The cattle move in on September third.

Juniors are ordering senior rings this week and being fitted for letterman jackets.

The school board met Monday.

The “Backpack Club” met Monday. If you would like to donate, you may send your donation to the school, just label it for the “Backpacks.”

Want to donate to the library for purchase of new books, that opportunity is always there! Send a donation to the school, labeled “Library.”

The WJHS OAP met Monday to determine the number of actors and actresses. Tryouts will be next Monday, August 31.

Three-week progress reports will go out the end of the week.

The District Improvement Team for 20-21 school year will be Melissa Vickers, Caleb Hagle, Bob Carruthers, Nicole Ellis, Roni Mills and Denny Berend.

New arrivals to the August Happy Birthday list include: Kacey Pate, Travis Carpenter, Tarynn Hearne, and Kristi Bellah! Finishing their birthday month are Alene Forrest, Sabrina Siebert, Vicki Carruthers, Derrick Robles, Josh Hewlett, Gayle Dyer, Bucky Kuykendall, Dennis Peacock, and Upton Dean! Send in Septemeber birthdays now!

Fish Night is back!!! The Woodson Inn will open on the first Saturday evening in September, the 5th, for all you can eat fish, AND the Music on the Patio is back, too! The Piano Man will kick off the Fall of 2020 Season! Hooray!

A big thank you to suppliers and delivery of the food boxes!

So, enjoy the dog days, as they will end soon enough. Drink plenty of liquids, apply sunscreen, don’t work too hard, pet your dog, watch the spectacular sunsets, attend a ball game of your choice, and be careful out there!
