Woodson News: Rain, rain come and stay…

Wed, 07/29/2020 - 5:00 am

Well, summer is slipping by and soon it will be “monsoon season” in Woodson. Okay, so maybe we don’t truly get monsoons, but we usually get our biggest rains when hurricanes begin in August. The hurricanes have begun early, so maybe the rain is on its way? Fingers crossed! We need our tank filled!

A final congratulatory shout to those with July anniversaries: Tisha and Wesley Bellah, Chad and Brittany!

A final July Happy Birthday to: Hagan Bellah! Olivia Boyd! Goose Pate! MacKenzie Cloud! Eric O’Dell! Heather Mathiews! Bree Overton! Chasin Deaton!

Email your events to tacylte@gmail.com.

Our prayer list includes Earlene Bellah, Alene Forrest (who is doing well after surgery), Brody Mathiews, Larry Long, Brandon Long, TC Shawver, Thora and Paul Thurn, Misty Lawson, Jean Brockman, Dale Deaton, Jr., Dale Deaton, Sr., Treon Thompson, Carolyn and Dee Tate, Susan Ayers, Ada Smith, Dean Singleton, Kelvin Singleton, Linda Dean, Aletha Creech, Charlene Kite, Frankie and Minerva, Janice Devenport, June and Arliss Willingham, Py Brown, Greg Dunlap, Otis and Delorah Hibbitts, Jeannie and Johnny Stoker, Ron and Vicki Saddler, Pam Allen, and Barbara and LB. If you have others for the list, please let me know at tacylte@ gmail.com.

The kids can still make a morning of Bible school at the Woodson FBC Backyard Bible Club VBS, being held at Pastor Jeremy and Ami’s backyard, at 305 Oak Street, July 27-30 from 9-11 a.m. All kiddos, K-6th grade completed, are certainly welcome to attend.

The school supply list will be published on FB. Teachers and administrators are working hard to plan for physical attendance of school and are preparing for virtual attendance, as well. If a family chooses virtual attendance, they will be “locked in” to that for six weeks, in order for teachers to complete and offer the best plans for the students.

Margaret, Maxie and Robert are on their way home from New Mexico. Drew and Nicole and the kids are enjoying hurricane season for their vacation at the Texas coast. I am spending my vacation continuing home renovations.

Inservice for teachers will begin on Aug. 3. And, Mr. Mills and the rest of the faculty and staff are excited to welcome students back in person on August 10! Watch FB for the time of the virtual “Meet the Teachers” and back to school information.

Apparently, Mayor Mathiews, whose words follow, had a run in with some nasty critters, “I think everyone likes rain, which brings weeds, pretty flowers and green grass, which brings us fat heathy animals and mosquitos and chiggers… Chiggers! They are sneaky little devils. According to Webster’s dictionary a chigger ‘probably from Africa, is the tiny, red larva of certain mites, whose Bite Causes Itching.’ Boy, that’s an understatement! Websters needed to add that they are indiscriminate as to whom they bite, and most of all, where they bite! Those little critters will take a bite from the tip of your toes to the top of your head and anywhere in between! Chiggers have no morals, no scruples, and no self-respect, they will bite where the sun don’t shine. If you ever see a magnified picture of one, they look like a dang politician out campaigning for your vote. If anyone has a remedy for a bite, or itch relief, let it be known! If you haven’t experienced a chigger bite, what’s your secret?”

I hear that wet weather deters chiggers… pray for rain!
