Rezoning of Elliott and Wheeler called off due to opposition

The project that calls for townhouses to be developed on a rezoned Elliott and Wheeler Street has been called off after almost two months of meetings and opposition.

Cancelled plans

Virgil Moore, executive director of the Breckenridge Economic Development Corporation, said developer David Stowe spoke with him on Tuesday, Dec. 11, and said he no longer wished to pursue the development project.

Stowe concurred saying the opposition was the primary motive for changing his mind.

P&Z Board to vote again on townhouse rezoning request due to invalid vote

A third meeting will be held regarding the rezoning of Wheeler and Elliot Street to allow for townhouses, due to an ineligible vote casted in the prior meeting. The new meeting will be held Thursday, Dec. 13.

After two tumultuous meetings for the city of Breckenridge’s Planning and Zoning Commission, where several from the public and the city showed to argue for or against a townhouse development project, the commission will hold its third one before it goes to the city in January.

Planning and Zoning holds contentious public hearing

The Breckenridge Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing last week regarding plans to rezone an area in the town that would allow the development of townhouses. The items were eventually tabled due to lack of clarification and will be moved to another day. The hearing at times was contentious, as over a dozen residents living in or near the area showed to protest and voice their concerns over the plan.
