The Breckenridge Rotary Club received insight information on the Breckenridge Independent School District athletic department.
Athletic Director and head football coach, Casey Pearce, was the special guest and spoke to the Rotary Club of Breckenridge about multiple topics on Tuesday, June 16.
“We have a younger population that needs to learn the tradition of Breckenridge High School and Breckenridge Athletics,” Athletic Director Pearce said. “During summer training we’ve averaged over 185 kids coming for workouts and are proud of the turnout we’ve received.”
Pearce is in the process of adding new positions to coaching staff after the departure of key members of the staff. Both girls and boys basketball coaches, Chris Robertson and Colby Heartfield have moved on to new adventures and will no longer be with the school district.
Chris Robertson will be replaced with new girls’ basketball coach Bryan Goehring from Poteet ISD. Goehring will be introduced as the new head coach in the coming weeks.
Jarrod Shepperd will serve as the football team’s offensive coordinator and Blair Magee will serve as the defensive coordinator/defensive assistant for the football team.
The team is currently searching for a new head basketball coach in hopes of reestablishing the Breckenridge basketball program.
“Change is always uneasy for people,” Pearce said. “I would like people to understand that we have a direction we’re headed to and we’ll fight tooth and nail to head into that direction. We must promote an attitude, trust, and toughness and a team ideal.”
