The Breckenridge High School varsity baseball team will begin the season highly ranked, after being ranked #2 in the 2020 preseason 3A rankings. The team is returning nine starters from a 31-5 regional semi-finalist team.

The Bucks hosted Stamford in a scrimmage Saturday and the two teams competed at a high level.

The highlight from the scrimmage occurred when a Breckenridge batter crushed a ball deep into left field. The play resulted in a stand-up double.

After a single to right field advanced the runner, the next batter was walked to load the bases. With a 2-2 count, the next pitch saw the Buckaroos bring a couple of men home with a two-strike double into center field.

The team will return two seniors who were voted to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. The two seniors are all-state third baseman, Kooper Shook, and catcher, Jake Escalon, along with multiple All-District players.
According to MaxPreps, the team had a combined ERA of 2.59 and a batting average of .370 last season.

The Buckaroos will be featured in multiple tournaments throughout the spring, including the Godley Tournament, Haskell Tournament and the Lake Worth Tournament.

The Bucks JV team will also be featured in the Haskell JV tournament beginning March 5.

The team will begin district play in May against Brock on March 17, with a 4:30 p.m. start for JV and 7 p.m. for varsity.

The varsity team is looking to rebound from last season’s playoff loss to the Wall Hawks. The Hawks defeated the Buckaroos 11-1 in the 2019 Baseball 3A Region tournament.

The team is currently waiting for multiple key starters who are on the basketball team. Multiple sluggers are still competing in the playoffs for the Breckenridge varsity team and will rejoin the team once the season ends.

The Bucks varsity team will be on the road Saturday, Feb. 29 and will play the Jim Ned Indians and the Bangs Dragons. The scrimmages will be held in Bangs, with the first game starting at 11 a.m. and the second at 4 p.m.

The first home game of the season for the Buckaroos varsity team will be against Eastland. The first pitch will be thrown at noon Monday, March 9.
