BHS athletes order Letter Jackets

Wed, 04/28/2021 - 5:00 am

The noon hour was especially busy, in the Media Room of the Breckenridge Athletic and Fine Arts Center, at Breckenridge High School, Thursday, April 22.

Freshmen and other underclassmen/women were packed into the BHS Media Room to order their Letter Jackets, with packet and money in hand.

Eric Manto of MECA Sportswear was on hand to take their orders and money and supervise the athletes trying on jackets to determine the correct size. The male/female athletes were also choosing what would go on their jackets in addition to the BHS letters earned in any Varsity sport, which entitled them to their free Letter Jacket. It is all the additional emblems that cost the athlete or BHS Band member, Academic scholar, Actor/Actress or FFA member.

The additional emblems added to their individual Letter Jackets might reference a specific sport and/ or maybe a possible District Award earned such as All-District Academic or at a specific position such as in Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Softball/Baseball or a runner in Track/ Cross Country and maybe a Weight-Lifter.

So many choices that a student may choose as an athlete or as a participant in BHS Band, One-Act-Play, FFA or UIL event, who may have gone on to special District, Regional, Area or State events.

Each level of competition has an emblem earned by the individual which entitles that person to wear that emblem on his/her letter jacket to demonstrate to people what they have earned as individuals at BHS.

Another big day for all the individuals who participated today in the ordering process is when the Letter Jackets come in at BHS and are distributed to the individuals. It ranks right up there with the distribution of the BHS Yearbook in the spring or the day that juniors get their BHS ring.
