The Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame board of directors has decided to reschedule the 2020 induction banquet until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The banquet has been rescheduled for Monday, April 19, 2021, at the Abilene Convention Center when the 2020 inductees will be honored.

Those 2020 inductees to be honored include; Boone Magness of Breckenridge, rodeo star Lari Dee Guy of Clyde, former Abilene High quarterbacks Ahmad Brooks and the late David Bourland.

According to the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame, Magness was a triple threat in 1929 for the Buckaroos championship run. He ran for an 83-yard touchdown, passed for a 50-yard touchdown, and personally beat Cisco to get the Buckaroos into the state race.

Magness passed for both touchdowns and the Buckaroos were able to beat Waco, a team that won four state championships from 1922-1927.

In 1929, Breckenridge played Port Arthur for the championship in footdeep snow in Waco. The game ended in a tie but was almost won by the Bucks when Magness pass to Boyle Pruitt came up inches short of the goal line.

Madness later played at Washington State from 1933-1935. In 1968, he was in the first class of inductees into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame.

Also inducted will be former Super Bowl champion Jerry Don Logan of Graham, former state champion six-man football coach, C.H. Underwood of O’Brien, basketball player and coach Milton Martin of Avoca, the father-son tennis coach duo of Fred Scott Sr. and Fred Scott Jr. who coached at Sweetwater and Abilene High, longtime Associated Press writer Mike Cochran of Stamford and legendary Ranger College coach Ron Butler.
