Boys basketball prevails, while Lady Bucks drop two straight

The Buckaroo Varsity boys played on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Breckenridge ISD Athletic and Fine Arts Facility against the Archer City Wildcats. The Bucks took off with a sizable lead in the first quarter, 21-13 and by the end of the first half were still ahead 32-25. But the Wildcats gradually crept up on the Bucks. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 48-41 in favor of the Bucks. By the fourth quarter, it was a back and forth battle and at 18 seconds to play, the score was 62-60 in favor of the Bucks until the Bucks finally pulled it out 66-63. Fortunately, the Bucks were very good at the foul line.

In their Friday, Dec. 14 game, the Bucks faced off with the Comanche Indians and proceeded to give a clinic on a variety of shots with a sizable lead at half-time the score was 46-14. The Bucks went on to win 71-38. The top scorers included Gerardo Palacios (10) with 25 points, six assists and four rebounds. Owen Woodward (13) had 12 points and six assists, Jonas Arellano had 10 points, four assists and six rebounds. Kevin Franco contributed five points, seven assists and eight rebounds.

The Lady Bucks had a hard-fought battle Tuesday, Dec. 11 but ended up short in a 64-54 loss to the Jacksboro Lady Tigers after coming from behind by 19 points and battling back to within 10. The top scorers were Madison Stanley, Kylee Willis and Carly Tennison. The loss gave the Lady Bucks a 10-9 record.

The Lady Bucks faced the Peaster Lady Greyhounds at home Friday night, Dec. 14 and in another hard-fought battle came up short at the end, losing 51-52 to the Peaster Lady Greyhounds. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bucks were leading a close game 24-23. The Lady Bucks tossed in three-pointers and layup shots by Madison Stanley (10), Kylee Willis (25), Carly Tennison (15) and Morgan Hash (2). The Lady Bucks led 51-48 with a 1:30 to go. Then, the Greyhounds got a two-pointer and had foul shots which prevailed to give the Lady Greyhounds a one-point win, 51-52. Now the Lady Bucks record is 10-10.

The Lady Bucks played the Tolar Lady Rattlers away Tuesday, Dec. 18. This game was not recorded at time of publishing, but the Breckenridge American will update with a story on the game. Lastly, the Lady Bucks are due to play the Boyd Lady Yellowjackets at home Friday, Dec. 21, before they break for the Christmas holidays.
