Breck Junior All-Stars win District 5 Championship
The Breckenridge Junior League All-Star baseball team achieved a milestone that has yet to be done by any Breckenridge Junior All-Star team.
The Junior All-Stars claimed their first District 5 Championship in history with a 9-4 win over the Clyde All-Stars Friday evening at Abilene Northern.
Breckenridge has had a perfect record throughout the All-Star games having defeated Clyde 13-1 on June 27 and 11-9 June 23.
The team now advances to the Section 2 tournament, which will be held July 7-11 at Abilene Northern.
Breckenridge will face North Arlington at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 7.
In Friday’s game against Clyde, Breckenridge jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Owen Woodward drew a one-out walk and later scored following a pass ball to make the score 1-0.
Jake Escalon hit a single and later scored on a pass ball as well.
Clyde briefly took the lead at 3-2 in the top of the second inning before Breckenridge powered home five runs in the bottom half of the inning to lead 7-3.
Zane McKay and Gerardo Palacios had back-to-back walks to lead off the inning.
Escalon hit a double to score Evan Moore and Palacios.
Woodward, who reached base on balls, scored following a ground out by Jonas Arellano to make the score 7-3.
Breckenridge added one run in the bottom of the third inning.
D’Andrey Silva led the inning off with a single and later scored following a single by Palacios.
Neither team scored in the fourth inning.
Breckenridge had one more run cross the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Palacios had a double in the inning and later scored following as Aaryn Medina reached on a fielder’s choice.
Clyde scored one run in the top of the sixth inning to make the final score 9-4.
Breckenridge scored its nine runs on eight hits and had four errors, while Clyde had four runs on six hits and committed three errors.
Palacios and Escalon led the Breckenridge hitting in the game.
Both were two-for-four with a double, single and two RBIs.
Silva pitched four innings for Breckenridge.
During those four innings, Silva allowed three hits, one unearned run and had two strikeouts.
Palacios pitched three complete innings and allowed three hits, three unearned runs, four strikeouts and two walks.
The section tournaments are the second of four tournaments teams must win to reach their respective World Series. The Junior League World Series will be Aug. 14-21 in Taylor, Michigan.
