Breck Juniors split first two games of Texas West State Tournament
The Breckenridge Junior All-Stars were defeated by Corpus Christi Padre Island 11-4 Sunday morning in their second round game of the Texas West Junior League State Tournament in Abilene.
Breckenridge scored its four runs on six hits, while Corpus Christi Padre Island had 11 runs on 10 hits.
Padre scored nine of the 11 runs off of five uncharacteristic errors by Breckenridge.
Breckenridge now faces elimination as they will take on San Antonio 5 Diamonds at 5 p.m. Monday evening at the Wylie Baseball Complex in Abilene.
The Corpus Christi All-Stars struck first blood with a four-run first inning, while Breckenridge pushed across one run.
Breckenridge slowly started to chip into the lead with a run in the bottom half of the third inning, however another big four-run inning by Corpus made the score 8-2 after 4½ innings of play.
Breckenridge answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Corpus countered with two more runs in the fifth inning.
A scoreless sixth inning by both teams was followed by Corpus scoring one run in the top half of the seventh and then holding Breckenridge scoreless.
Breckenridge was led by Owen Woodward and Aaryn Medina, who both had doubles in the game.
Jackson Woodward, D’Andrey Silva and Medina each had one RBI in the game.
Medina pitched 1²/³ innings and allowed no earned runs and had two strikeouts, while Owen Woodward pitched two complete innings and allowed four runs (none earned) on three hits and had one strikeout.
Gerardo Palacios pitched two innings and allowed five runs (one earned) on four hits.
Breckenridge vs. San Antonio 5 Diamonds
The Breckenridge Juniors opened the tournament with a 4-0 win over San Antonio 5 Diamonds Friday.
Gerardo Palacios went 2-4 with two singles and Owen Woodward and D’Andrey Silva had a double each to help lead Breckenridge.
Breckenridge went up for good in the fourth, scoring two runs on an RBI double by D’Andrey Silva and an RBI single by Zane McKay. Breckenridge then pushed across one run in both the fifth inning and the sixth.
The Junior All-Stars scored their four runs on seven hits, while 5 Diamonds was held scoreless and had just one hit.
Jake Escalon pitched two complete innings and shut down 5 Diamonds by allowing no hits or runs. He also had three strikeouts.
Silva pitched three innings and allowed one hit and had one strikeout.
