Breckenridge: Bi-district playoff review

Breckenridge (24-6, 10-3) placed third in District 7 ranking 340 in the state. Their opponent, City View (19-9, 6-4) representing District 8, was runner up and ranked 383. The City View Mustangs averages 55.7 points per game. Their go-to guy is junior J. Lucas, averaging 14.4 points per game. He is partial to the 3-pointer with 67 makes. Thus far, he has score 303 points this year.

Their next go-to guy is senior J. Marks, averaging 9.1 points per game. He has tallied 172 points, so far.

There are two others who cannot be ignored, J. Luster (157 points) and I. Marks (140 points). J Luster can be a threat at the 3-point line with 30 makes this year.

Breckenridge plays hard and fast, naturally leading to fouls. They will have to be careful as the Mustangs hit 58% of their free throws. Watch #24 senior K. Hudson at a 73% free throw percentage. Additionally, J Lucas averages 67%, I. Marks at 64%, and J. Durham at 63%.

The Mustang defense is comparable to the Buckaroos. City View defense steals average 11.1 times per game, 2.5 blocks and 23.2 rebounds per game.

J. Marks will always be under the basket averaging 4.2 rebounds per game. I. Marks and K. Gibson will be there as well. J. Marks will take chances stealing 2.2 per game along with I Marks at 2.4 steals per game.

Buckaroos basketball coach Colby hart field said, “City View is a good and well-coached team. I feel like for us to beat them and move on we will have to rely on what got us here which is playing great defense and playing with great effort. If we do those two things we will give ourselves a great chance.”

District 8 winner Childress (24-5 District 10-0) ranked 150 will play District 7 Tolar (18-13, 7-6) ranked 576.District 7 winner Peaster (29-5, 13-1) ranked 110 will play District 8 Nocona (16-13, 5-6) ranked 623.Brock, (20-8, 10-2) ranked 264, runner up in District 7, will play District 8 Holliday (15-11, 5-5) ranked 492.The Breckenridge Buckaroos faced City View in Olney on Tuesday, Feb. 25 @ 7 p.m.

Area playoffs will be played Feb. 27-29.
