The Breckenridge Buckaroos improved to 24-5 on the season after beating the Jacksboro Tigers, 71-44, last Friday, Feb. 14 at home.

The game began at a competitive rate. Well-designed plays scored consecutive baskets for the Bucks, as Gerardo Palacios and Owen Woodward put the team up 4-1, early in the first quarter.

After ending the first quarter tied 16-16, the Buckaroos went on a 23-5 run and by the end of the second quarter, the Buckaroos were leading 39-23.

At halftime, Coach Colby Hartfield of the Breckenridge Buckaroos made an emphasis on rebounding for the Buckaroos.

“We’re getting stops and playing good defense, we just have to prevent the second-chance points and we’ll have a good chance of winning tonight,” Coach Hartfield said.

The Buckaroos began the third quarter on a 10-4 run, with both teams exchanging three-pointers.

Steals and turnovers played a huge part in the success of the Buckaroos. Buckaroos point guard, Aaryn Medina, was able to intercept multiple passes that allowed the Bucks to extend their lead.

After Medina scored on a mid-range jump shot, Kyle Canada intercepted the inbound pass for an easy lay-up, as the Buckaroos began to enforce their will upon the Tigers.

Consecutive turnovers by the Tigers led to points for the Bucks and put the game out of contention.

“We didn’t have the best start. We have great stuff at the times and then we have lows, which we need to get fixed,” Coach Hartfield said. “We’ll watch the film and get them ironed out before we get to the playoffs. I’m super proud of how we played and for it to be on Senior Night. I’m glad we were able to get our seniors a win.”

The Buckaroos are still awaiting the end of the season to decide their playoff fate.
