Thanksgiving Day has come and gone but one Breckenridge family celebrated the day watching their daughter perform in the 100 Cheer girls’ group in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Breckenridge High School senior and honor student, Landry Woodward, was selected to perform with the 100 Cheer girls from across the Nation, to perform in the well-known Macy’s parade. Woodward was selected for the All-American Team by the National Cheerleading Association (NCA), after she attended the Cheerleader Camp at Tarleton State University this past summer. She also got the same award last year but was not selected to go to New York City. Last year, BHS senior, Kelli Wilcox, was selected for the trip to the Macy’s parade.

Woodward has been a cheerleader all four years at BHS and the two years at BJHS. She began tumbling at age three, which helped her skills as a cheerleader later. Woodward also participated in competitive cheerleading with JLyn Jackson and Dustin Pittman, with Allegiance Cheer from age 12.

Woodward has been taking dual-credit and honors classes all through high school and could have graduated early last December but opted to come back for her senior year. Woodward is the daughter of James and Michele Simmonds and Bryan Woodward. Grandparents include Dale and Freddie Taylor, Sandra Woodward and the late Owen Woodward, as well as Jim Simmonds and the late Janie Simmonds. Woodward also has two siblings, Jackson Woodward and Grady Simmonds.

Two weeks ago, Woodward received the ‘Cheer routines’ she was required to learn prior to meeting up with the 100 Cheer girls from across the Nation.

Woodward had to leave last Saturday, Nov. 17 and the family joined her for the planned joint activities with the girls to see the sites of New York City.
