Bryson junior Zander Tinney had his teammates talking before their Friday game with Woodson even started.

Tinney, the Cowboys’ leading scorer, was ready for his first dunk of the season. While the opportunity did not present itself during the visitors’ 47-22 win over the host Cowboys, Tinney finished the job afterwards as his coach was giving postgame interviews.

Tinney was a key cog for Bryson, scoring 15 points in leading three visitors in double figures. Tyce Reeves got the visitors out to a 3-0 lead with more than three minutes gone. Landon Stephens and Tinney extended the lead to 7-0 later in the first quarter.

Woodson closed the deficit to three on buckets from Nathan Colquit and Derek Thomasas. Bryson missed 10 shots in row at one stretch. Tinney snapped the scoreless run and despite shooting just 15% from the field, the visitors led 9-4 after the quarter.

Tinney and Stephens combined for all nine of Bryson’s second-quarter tallies. Woodson had trouble finding the hole in the frame, getting a Ryan Diaz bucket as its only points. The Bryson defense enabled the squad to take an 18-6 lead at the half and made Bryson Coach Slade Egan extremely happy.

“I loved the fact that when our shots wouldn’t fall, our defensive intensity wouldn’t drop,” Egan said, after watching his troops remain unbeaten in district at 3-0 and 13-10 overall.
