The Breckenridge Buckaroos hosted the Early Longhorns on Friday, Oct. 16, and crowned the 2020 Homecoming king and queen during a pre-game event.

The Buckaroos lost the contest 21-0, as Jonathan Trejo, Buckaroos offensive and defensive lineman, and Kayla Wood, BHS drum major were named, as the 2020 Homecoming king and queen during a pregame event.

“Just aggravated,” Casey Pearce, Buckaroos head coach said. “That one took the wind out of my sail. The definition of insanity is what it is. Continuing mistakes, week in and week out from both sides of the football. At some point, we need to have more pride about us. Find a way to fight and compete, and being prideful of being tough and not letting teams just attack us.”

Although the Bucks lost the contest, the team was able to intercept the ball from the Early offense twice as Brandon Haigwood and Johnny Alamance picked off passes from the Longhorns quarterback. The second interception of the season for Alamance kept the game close as the Buckaroos attempted to stay in the contest.

The Bucks began the game with back-to-back possession in the red zone. The team was unable to manufacture points, as a fourth-down stop at the three-yard line stopped a promising Buckaroo drive.

“We better be able to flush it, because that was pretty embarrassing,” Pearce said. “That’s an embarrassing loss to a team we were capable of playing with. We better flush it and get ready to go back to work because it is not going to be easy. Sticking around this program is not going to be easy for some until they have some pride in being tough. It’s going to be a long ride ahead, and we’ll get that straight. We need to learn how to block and tackle, learn how to execute.”

The Buckaroos will look for a bounce-back game traveling to play the Wall Hawks on Friday, Oct. 23. The Hawks are coming off a 28-8 loss to the Jim Ned Indians, after scoring eight points in the first quarter and not a single point again.

“I guarantee their knife will be sharp, and they’ll be ready to try to score half a hundred,” Pearce said. “We have our work cut out for us with a difficult offense to prepare for in three days.”
