Buckaroos earn 3-3A D1 All-District football honors

The immediate future looks bright for Breckenridge football. The 3-3A D1 All-District football teams were announced and include Buckaroos in 23 categories. This includes sophomores and juniors in 15 categories.

The All-District teams are announced when all four playoff teams have been eliminated from the playoffs. Jim Ned was the final team eliminated after a 70-25 loss to Brock last Friday, Nov. 26. Breckenridge and Wall lost in bi-district before Early lost in the area playoff.

In the superlatives, junior Anson Rodgers won Utility Player of the Year. Rodgers was utilized offensively in both the passing and running games. In five district games, Rodgers had 15 catches for 242 yards and one touchdown. He added 38 runs for 323 yards and five touchdowns. Rodgers had 100-plus rushing yards in games against Clyde and Wall.

Junior quarterback Chase Lehr was named Offensive Newcomer of the Year. In five district games, Lehr attempted 91 passes. He had 59 completions for 927 yards and eight touchdowns during the district schedule.

Representing the Buckaroos on the First Team Offense are junior Jerry Lawson and seniors Chad Wilcox (center) and Issak Eutimio (guard). Lawson earned a spot on the first team in the fullback position. Although he had seven catches and three receiving touchdowns, he was used primarily in the running game. During district play, Lawson had 68 carries for 357 yards and eight touchdowns.

Lawson (defensive end) was joined by senior Julian Eutimio (outside linebacker) and sophomore Alexis Franco (safety) on First Team Defense. During district play, Lawson had 19 tackles, six tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three tipped passes. Julian Eutimio had 38 tackles, one sack, six tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Franco had 46 tackles, one tackle for loss and three tipped passes.

On the Second Team Offense, the Buckaroos are represented by five players. Wide receivers Adrian Ruiz (junior), Zeke Castillo (senior) and tight end Caiden Marin (sophomore) make up the skill positions on the team. Linemen include guard Jose Duran (senior) and tackle Isaiah Lehr (junior).

Defensively, the Buckaroos have four players on Second Team Defense. Senior Trace Thompson (defensive tackle), Marin (inside linebacker), junior Zeke Castillo (outside linebacker) and junior Adrian Ruiz (cornerback) all earned second-team honors.

Earning honorable mentions were junior Erick Williamson (offensive tackle), senior Chad Wilcox (defensive tackle), junior Emilio Maya (cornerback), senior Brandon Haigwood (wide receiver), junior Xander Silva (tight end/inside linebacker) and Chase Lehr (punter).

The 2021 Buckaroos finished 4-7 with wins against Jacksboro, Clyde, Early and San Angelo TCLA. The season ended Nov. 12 with a 56-14 loss to Whitesboro in the bi-district playoff. The Buckaroos finished the district schedule 3-2 and in second place behind district champion Jim Ned.
