The University Interscholastic League (UIL) has released its conference and district realignments for the 2026-2028 cycle, bringing several notable changes for Breckenridge High School athletics.

While the Buckaroos and Lady Bucks remain in Class 3A, all three sports – football, volleyball and basketball will compete in new districts over the next two school years, including a significant shift for football.

The enrollment cutoffs for both conference and divisions are as follows:
Conference Cutoffs

Buckaroo football will move down to Class 3A Division II and compete in District 4 for the upcoming cycle. The new district places the Buckaroos alongside Henrietta, Holliday, Jacksboro, Merkel and Wichita Falls City View.

The move to Division II aligns Breckenridge with schools closer to its enrollment range and creates a district that blends familiar opponents with programs the Bucks have not faced regularly in recent years.
Holliday and Jacksboro bring strong playoff pedigrees, while City View adds athleticism and speed to the mix. The district’s overall balance should provide the Bucks with a competitive but manageable path as the program enters a new two-year slate.

Volleyball will see a different kind of shift, moving up into Class 3A-1 District 7, although their opponents will remain the same. In this district, the Lady Bucks will continue to compete against Comanche, Dublin, Early, Eastland, Millsap, Peaster and Tolar, who all shifted up one district as well.

Basketball, meanwhile, shifts up two districts in Class 3A Division 1, moving to District 6 for both the boys and girls programs. Breckenridge joins Bowie, Henrietta, Holliday, Jacksboro, Vernon and Wichita Falls City View in a district that stretches across a wide portion of North Texas.

The alignment brings together a mix of athletic, physical and traditionally strong basketball programs, creating a competitive landscape that will challenge both the Bucks and Lady Bucks. Holliday and City View typically field fast, high-pressure teams, while Bowie and Vernon bring size and physicality. The district’s variety of styles should make for an intense and unpredictable two-year cycle.

Although Breckenridge’s classification remains the same, the new district alignments introduce fresh competitive dynamics across the three sports. Football’s move to Division II offers a more enrollment-balanced district, while volleyball and basketball step into larger, more demanding 3A-1 groupings. The new two seasons will bring new rivalries, new travel routes and new opportunities for the Buckaroos and Lady Bucks to establish themselves within reshaped UIL districts.
