The Breckenridge Buckaroos took charge of their game Friday night against the Clyde Bulldogs. The Bucks had 303 yards of offense, with 95 of that in the air for an average of 13.6 yards per pass from quarterback Kevin Franco, who was 7 for 14 passing. There was 208 rushing yards on the ground, with 46 carries, which averaged 4.5 yards per carry.

The Bucks only had to punt twice in the game. They had 15 first downs but two turnovers that were interceptions.

Angel Ruiz had 151 yards in 26 carries as the big workhorse for the Bucks, averaging 5.8 yards per carry and 19 yards receiving. Jonas Arellano had 38 yards on 4 carries. Cooper Shook gained 12 yards on three carries and Franco had 30 yards on 13 carries.

In the passing game, Tristan Garcia had nine yards, Arrellano had 12 yards, Weston Wilson had 21 yards, Jake Escalon had 18 yards and Kyler Knight had 16 yards.

The Bucks were penalized three times for 20 yards. J.T. Caraway had two sacks for a total of negative 23 yards. The defense allowed the Bulldogs 66 yards of total offense all night.

The Bulldogs were penalized six times for 32 yards and were forced to punt six times for 192 yards, which averaged 32 yards per punt. The Bulldogs had three turnovers, two interceptions and one fumble, which the Bucks turned into touchdowns.

The score at the end of the first quarter was 7-0 Bucks, with the first touchdown coming with 4:30 left in the first quarter. The Bucks had a 4th down with seven yards to go and made the second touchdown in the second quarter with 4:57 left.

Clyde managed to get to the Bucks 24 yard line, with a 2nd and 33 to go. On 3rd down, it was 36 to go and they were forced to punt.

Just before the half ended, a Franco pass was intercepted by the Bulldogs with three seconds remaining, but time ran out ending the half with the Bucks up 14-0.

In the third quarter, the Bucks were pushed back to their 1-yard-line. But with some defensive moxie, the Bucks got out of the situation, pushing the Bulldogs back to the 8-yard-line and forcing an interception. The Bucks worked it down the field with a mixture of short passes and runs and then Escalon took it to the Bulldog 3-yard-line before he was stopped. Ruiz pushed it across for his third touchdown of the night and Justin Bell made the extra point to make it a 21-0 score going into the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, the Bucks recovered a Bulldog fumble at the 23-yard-line with 10:24 to go and scored another touchdown with 8:20 remaining. The score was 28-0.

Ruiz made all of the Buckaroo touchdowns and Bell kicked all of the extra points for the 28-0 score.

That victory placed the Bucks in the playoffs as the fourth placed team in the district. As a result, the Bucks will play Brock at 7 p.m. Thursday, at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene.
