Bucks blast Bearcats, 7-0

Wed, 03/24/2021 - 5:00 am

The Bucks squared off against the Henrietta Bearcats and defeated them 7-0 after a five-run start in the first inning. The Bucks were anxious to hit the reset button after the loss Monday, March 15, to the Holliday Eagles 1-11.

The Bucks quickly established the reset by pushing home five runs in the bottom of the first inning against the Bearcats on Tuesday, March 16, on Escalon Field, in front of the hometown crowd.

Christian Arellano #16 slammed a hard-hit ball to the third baseman, who promptly overthrew first, which allowed Arellano to head to second base on the error. Next, the Henrietta pitcher nipped the shirt of Evan Moore #8 and he took his base. Jonas Arellano #3 followed with a well-placed bunt, which allowed C. Arellano to score and moved Moore to third and J. Arellano was safe at first on another error by Henrietta, which loaded the bases for the Bucks.

Unfortunately, Flavio Davila #2 hit toward first base and was put out, but Moore scored for the Bucks and it was (2-0), with one out. Next, the Bucks’ shortstop, Camden Escalon #12 hit to third. The Henrietta third baseman failed to check the runner at third and threw immediately to first, but not in time. Meanwhile, J. Arellano scored and the Bucks were up 3-0. Ashton Reyes #4 was hit by the pitcher and the catcher overthrew second base to miss the out. Next, big brother, Ayden Reyes #13, the Bucks catcher, slammed a hard-hit ball to the leftfield wall and two more Bucks scored, Escalon and Ashton Reyes. The Bucks’ right fielder, Anson Rodgers hit to left field, which was caught and the runner going to third was put out for the third out of the inning. The Bucks were up 5-0 after one full inning of play.

In the top of the second inning, the Bearcats attempted to get some batters on base with bunts, but the fast infield was able to respond and collected three outs of the four Bearcat batters. The next three batters for the Bucks also were put out with high hit balls to right field, second and to the third baseman.

In the top of the third inning, the Bucks’ pitcher, J. Arellano had two strikeouts and benefitted from an out at second.

Likewise, the first batter for the Bucks, Davila, struck out. Escalon followed with a groundball to shortstop that was stopped and he was out at first. Ashton Reyes followed with another hit to shortstop that was caught for the third out. After three innings of play, the Bucks were still ahead 5-0.

J. Arellano collected another strikeout in the top of the fourth inning and the other two outs were dispensed with by the quick play of the infield.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Ayden Reyes hit to right field and slid into second safely for a respectable double, but the ball was overthrown and Reyes advanced safely into third. Rodgers was out at first and was followed by Ashton Reyes who hit to second, which allowed Ayden Reyes to score and the Bucks went up 6-0.

The Bucks added one more run in the bottom of the fifth and kept the Bearcats from scoring in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to win, 7-0. The Bucks are now (2-1) in District 7-3A.

After Spring Break, the Bucks travel to Jacksboro on Friday, March 26. The Bucks are not back home until Tuesday, March 30, which is also the Easter Egg Hunt for the younger kids hosted by the Bucks’ baseball teams.
