Bucks claim second District 7-3A win

Wed, 03/31/2021 - 5:00 am

The Bucks varsity baseball team took care of business after a location switch was necessary. City View’s baseball field was underwater. As result, the away game was switched to Escalon Field in Breckenridge. The word spread quickly for the home game and a Buckaroo crowd was on hand to cheer for the Bucks as they ripped through the City View Mustangs and won, (10-2).

It was the wild, bottom of the sixth inning when the Bucks grabbed five runs and increased the score from (5-2) to (10-2). The Bucks’ hot bats were led off by a hard-hit ball past third base by Chad Wilcox #5, which was followed by another hardhit ball to center field by Ayden Reyes #13 and allowed courtesy runner, Ashton Reyes #4 to score. A wild pitch that got away from the Mustang pitcher allowed Ayden Reyes #13 to score. Christian Arellano #16 sent a hard-hit ball deep into left field that allowed Anson Rodgers #9 to score, followed by a close call at home plate by Zeke Castillo #11, who slid in safely to also score. Evan Moore #8 sent a hard hit ball past third base in fair territory, for a triple and cleared the bases for C. Arellano to score, which elevated the score to (10-2).

Initially, the Mustangs had the lead, (0-1) after the first inning, but the Bucks collected two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead, (2-1). Ayden Reyes had a hard-hit ball to center field, which allowed Flavio Davila #2 and Camden Escalon #12 to score.

The Mustangs added another run in the top of the third inning with the score tied at, (2-2).

The Bucks collected two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when a new pitcher came in the game for the Mustangs. He tended to be a bit wild and the catcher often had to scramble to get passed balls. It was that type of situation that allowed Ayden Reyes to score followed by Rodgers to also score in the bottom of the fourth. At that point, the Bucks went ahead, (4-2).

The Bucks gathered another run in the bottom of the fifth led by a hard-hit fly ball that went past the third baseman by Jonas Arellano #3. That hit was followed by a Mustang catcher overthrow to second base and allowed the Bucks courtesy runner, Cayden Carr #1, to scoot on home for the score. At that point, the score was (5-2).

The Bucks collected those five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and the City View Mustangs were unable to muster up any runs in the top of the seventh inning to give the winning nod to the Bucks in their second District 7 victory, (10-2. The Bucks are now (2-1) in District 7 and an overall record of (9-4).

Flavio Davila was the pitcher on the mound for the Bucks for all seven innings, with nine strikeouts and gave up one walk. The Mustangs had three hits for the two runs.

Ayden Reyes and Christian Arellano both had doubles and Evan Moore was credited with a standup triple to lead the Bucks assault on the City View Mustangs.
