The Bucks were sporting their new uniform shirts, but that did not change their game as the defeated the Jacksboro Tigers 50-41.
Zeke Castillo #10 started the scoring for the Bucks, but it wasn’t long before the Tigers of Jacksboro went ahead 3-5. Jerry Lawson #35 added a bucket and it was all tied up at 5-5 at 3:01 of the first quarter. Jonas Arellano #14 added the first of his three-pointers and Jayton Hash #15 slipped in a bucket just as the buzzer ended the first quarter with the Bucks ahead by a hair, 10-9.
During the second quarter, the Bucks remained at 10 points while the Tigers went up to 14. Arellano got into the scoring mode with a bucket followed by one from Nathan Lechner #13. Arellano dumped in another three-pointer to get the Bucks back in the lead at 17-14 after being tied at 14. Lawson slipped one in before the buzzer sounded to bust the 17-17 tie. At the end of the first half, the Bucks led by a score of 19-17.
At the beginning of the third quarter, Arellano made a quick bucket and a foul shot followed by a bucket from Lechner to take the Bucks in the lead 24-19. Arellano got loose for a quick layup at 6:17 of the third quarter followed by one from Lawson to boost the score to 28-21. However, the Jacksboro Tigers recovered and quickly piled in some quick baskets to tie the score at 28-28 at 3:28 minutes. Lawson made another timely bucket at 2:53 and Arellano made another three-pointer for the Bucks to put the Bucks in the lead 33-29. The Tigers tied the score by the end of the third quarter at 33-33.
At the start of the fourth quarter, the Tigers made a quick basket to take the lead, 33-35. Arellano took care of the boards all night by grabbing the rebounds and getting down the court. He quickly tied the score at 35-35. At 4:58 of the fourth, the Tigers once again took back the lead, but Lawson quickly dumped in a bucket for the Bucks and once again the score was tied at 37-37 at 4:08 of the fourth. Arellano made a quick bucket for the Bucks, which was followed quickly by another bucket from Lawson. Arellano got another rebound and sped down the court to dump in another bucket for the Bucks extending the lead 43-37. The Bucks managed to keep the Tigers from scoring during that period, but the Tigers soon managed to get to 40. Hash got a foul shot in which was followed by another quick bucket by Lechner which earned the Bucks a score of 45-40 with 43 seconds to go in the game. Lechner was fouled in the process of his shot and made both his free throws. Arellano got loose for another quick bucket which was followed by a foul shot by Hash and the Bucks prevailed over the Jacksboro Tigers 50-41 in their second District 7 contest. This gives the Bucks a 1-1 district record and an overall record of 6-8.
The Bucks traveled to Henrietta to play another District 7 game against the Bearcats Friday, Jan. 8. The Bucks played at home Tuesday, Jan 12 against the City View Mustangs. The Bucks will be home on Friday, Jan. 15 to host the Nocona Indians.
