The Breckenridge Buckaroos dropped the third consecutive game of the season on Friday, September 11, as the team lost their home opener against the Cisco Loboes 14-0.

The Bucks finished the game with 153 yards of total offense, with 81 yards on 35 rushes and 72 yards on seven completions.

“We have to run the football and be effective running the football, “Casey Pearce, Buckaroos head coach said. “That’s how we’re going to build this program, running the ball over the top, just as Cisco does. We’re going to get there, and we have our minds made up.”

The Buckaroos are averaging 137 yards of total offense per game over the first three games. The team averages 30 rushes per game and about 87 yards on the ground. The Bucks are still looking for their first points of the season.

The Bucks offense began the game with a sense of optimism after a 37-yard completion from quarterback Henry Johnson to Tyler Valdez, on the first play of the game.

With the Bucks in the red zone, the team would exhaust all four downs in an attempt to score a touchdown. On fourth down, using jet sweep motion, a wide receiver reverse came up short of the end zone and resulted in a turnover of downs.

A quick three-andout by the Bucks defense gave the team the ball back after a punt. While exhausting all four downs again, a missed encroachment penalty by the Cisco defense caused the Bucks to miss a conversion on fourth down.

On the Loboes’ next possession, a running back wheel route out of the backfield gave Cisco a fresh set of downs in the red zone. On third down, the Loboes were able to get the ball into the end zone, to make the score 7-0.

For much of the first half, the two defenses traded blows and by halftime, the Loboes’ led 7-0.

On the first possession of the second half, the Loboes were able to march down the field and score the second and final touchdown of the game, taking a 14-0 lead.

“We did some good things tonight, some improvements,” Pearce said. “Saw effort, some pride, and saw some kids get after it tonight probably harder than they have in their career. It still comes down to putting points on the scoreboard and we have to get it done. We have to execute and continue to work the plan.”

The Buckaroos will host the Eastland Mavericks (0-3), as both teams will battle for their first victory on the season.
