Bucks finish second in district with shutout victory

Tue, 11/09/2021 - 10:51 am

The playoffs were already clinched. All that was left was to determine the seeding. With a 61-0 home win over the San Angelo TLCA Eagles, the Breckenridge Buckaroos are returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2018 as the second seed and will meet Whitesboro in the bi-district playoffs.

Touchdowns came early and often for the Buckaroos in Friday night’s win. A season-high 11 players were involved in nine touchdowns, including a return for a score.

The game opened with a season-high 27 points scored by the Buckaroos in the blow-out victory. With 48 points scored in the first half, the Buckaroos scored more first-half points Friday night than the entire game in the previous eight games, including surpassing the team’s final points in the previous two games combined.

It all happened at the right moment as the Buckaroos were looking at the possibility of finishing with the same record as Early and Wall. The blowout victory allowed the Bucks to sit in second place after finishing with 67 points more scored than allowed. Early finished with 43 point difference. Wall finished with a 13 point difference. Jim Ned finished as the district champions.

Chase Lehr and Alexis Franco combined for three touchdowns. Lehr threw touchdowns to Cedric Baldez and Adrian Ruiz. The throw to Ruiz was for a 75-yard touchdown score. Franco had a 5-yard touchdown throw to Kayden Garcia.
