Bucks host Lions in first scrimmage of season

Tue, 08/24/2021 - 5:25 pm

The Breckenridge Buckaroos went up against the 4A Vernon Lions at Buckaroo Stadium for the first scrimmage of the 2021 season. If the doubters were at the scrimmage Friday afternoon, their qualms were answered.

Varsity quickly quieted all skeptics as the Bucks scored easily against the Lions, including a broken field run by the new quarterback, Chase Lehr. The defensive and offensive lines appeared to be much better equipped and more eager to tackle. They hustled against the Lions and quickly shut them down, never allowing them near the end zone.

“We are taking steps in the right direction. JV & (varsity) competitiveness is exciting to see. We have made strides in mentality, confidence, and efficiency of play in the course of a year,” Head football coach Casey Pearce said. “Great retention and attention to detail have begun to show. We have a great opportunity ahead of us. We need to continue to embrace work and the expectations that success creates.”
