Bucks JVW cage Bulldogs in OT 32-29; JVG falls 23-38

Late in the fourth quarter, and down by two, the Breckenridge junior varsity white Buckaroos basketball team needed a spark for a come behind victory against the Clyde Bulldogs on Monday, Nov. 23 inside the Auxiliary Gym.

That spark was delivered after a three pointer by Karter Smalley which gave the Bucks a 23-21 lead with less than five minutes left in regulation. After a free throw by the Bulldogs, the Bucks held a 23-22 lead with under four minutes to play.

Smalley wasn’t done yet, the freshman hit a crossover and converted a layup to extend the Buckaroos lead to a 25-22 lead late in the fourth quarter. After a three-pointer by the Bulldogs gave them a two point lead with 48 secs to play.

Caiden Marin nailed the layup with less than 10 secs left and tied the game. The Bulldogs had one final shot at victory lost after a missed free throw with less than five seconds in regulation. The game went into overtime.

The Buckaroos needed four points in overtime to edge the Bulldogs as Marin and Echols added points to extend the Buckaroos lead.

The Bulldogs were limited to add two points as the Buckaroos pinned up the Clyde Bulldogs, 32-29 in overtime.

Marin was the leading scorer with 12 points, and Smalley added nine points to lead the Buckaroos.

Buckaroos junior varsity green team was not as lucky. The JVG fell behind 15-0 by the end of the first quarter.

Chase Lehr and Camden Escalon were the junior varsity green team’s leading scorers, as the team fought hard offensively and defensively in the fourth quarter to chip away at the Clyde Bulldogs lead.

The team ultimately fell short, losing the contest 23-38 against the Bulldogs.

The Buckaroos junior varsity white and green team will host the Ranger Bulldogs at home on Friday, Dec. 4. The teams will then host the Archer City Wildcats on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
