In their third meet of the young season at the Hico Bluebonnet Invitational, both the Bucks and Lady Bucks cross country teams finished in third place for their respective races.

In the meet held Wednesday, Sept. 3 at the Bluebonnet Country Club in Hico, the girls' team had a score of 89 to place third behind Glen Rose (51) and Comanche (39) in the 3.2k run among 13 teams. The boys' team recorded a score of 55 points to place behind Glen Rose (52) and Lampasas (23) in the 5k run among 12 teams.

The top finisher for the boys was Andrew White with a time of 17:53.79, and they had three other runners in the top 20 which earned medals. White was behind three runners from Lampasas that were the top three. The top finisher for the girls was Sayler Townson with a time of 14:58.53 and they also had three other runners in the top 20.

“I’m very proud of how both our boys and girls competed at the Hico Bluebonnet Invitational. The course was challenging, but our athletes rose to the occasion and faced this challenge head on,” said Head Coach Valeria Williams. “For both teams to come away with a third-place finish this early in the season is a great sign of where we’re headed.”

The cross country teams have four more meets leading up to the District meet Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Dublin.

“Each week we’re focusing on building consistency, sharpening our endurance, and learning how to compete together as a team,” Williams said. “If we continue to make those small improvements, I believe we’ll be in a strong position heading into the district meet next month.”

The Bucks and Lady Bucks will now travel to partake in the Lipan Indian 18th Annual Invitational at Lipan High School Wednesday, Sept. 10. A rolling schedule begins at 8:30 a.m. with varsity girls, followed by JV girls, then varsity boys and JV boys.
