Bucks lose nailbiter to Eastland 44-41, head to Early this week

The Breckenridge Buckaroos lost a shootout Friday night against district rival Eastland.

In a game that was back and forth all the way through, and saw the Bucks put up the second most points they’ve put up all season, The Bucks lost on a last second field goal that allowed Eastland to break the 41-41 tie in the fourth.

The Bucks broke out early, putting up 13 unanswered points in the first quarter. But in the second quarter, Eastland returned the favor by putting up 21 unanswered. The halftime score was 21-13. The third quarter was evenly matched, with both teams trading two touchdowns, and Eastland this time missing an extra point. The score going into the fourth was 27-34 in favor of the Mavericks.

The Bucks were able to put together two scoring drives in response to another Maverick touchdown, tying the score at 41-41 with just a little more than a minute to go.

The Mavericks were successful in moving the ball and lined up to kick a short field goal with just seconds left. The field goal was good and the game was over, with the Mavericks winning 44-41.

The Bucks will go on to play Early this week on the road. Early sits at 4-3 and are 0-2 in district play, along with Breckenridge. The Bucks are 2-5 and currently sit at 0-2 in district
