Following a 2-3 non-district record, the Breckenridge Buckaroos football team travels to Clyde this week to begin its district play for Class 3A District 3 Division I.

The game against the Bulldogs takes place Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. Clyde comes in after going 4-1 in their non-district schedule and only losing to Shallowater, 35-14. Last season, the Bulldogs went 4-7 (2-3) and defeated the Buckaroos 38-21 at Buckaroo Stadium in the district opener.

Finishing fourth in the district last year, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football predicted Clyde to finish in the same place in the standings this year in their preseason preview magazine. They enter this matchup with the same record of reigning district winner Tuscola Jim Ned, the preseason pick to win the district.

In last year’s game Joseph Juneau threw for three touchdown passes and 142 yards, a performance that he will look to replicate to give the Bucks a chance to get the best of Clyde. The run game will also be a key for the Bucks, who have leaned on Jaime Cruz throughout the season so far. Senior Christian Flores is also working his way back from an injury that caused him to miss non-district.

In Clyde’s lone loss, Shallowater had a balance of running and passing, throwing for 23 times and rushing 29 times en route to a 35-14 win. In their 19-14 win over Tolar, the Bucks ran 43 times and passed just 17 times.

Defensively, the Bucks will look to build off the Tolar game in which they allowed just 10 first downs, 90 rushing yards and 121 passing yards. They recovered one fumble and also recorded 17 tackles for loss. Times when the Bucks have created negative plays this season have put them in the best position to win.

Following the game at Clyde, the Bucks host Jim Ned, then travel to Comanche and Sweetwater before finishing the season against TLCA at home.
