Bucks out-hustled by City View

Wed, 01/20/2021 - 5:00 am

Despite three-pointers from Zeke Castillo #10, Jayton Hash #15 and Jonas Arellano #14 and a late bucket by Sean Cooksey #22, the Bucks were not prepared for the speed and quickness of the Mustangs and a loss, 44-72.

The Bucks held their own during the first quarter down by two, 16-18.

The Mustangs were just getting warmed up. City View let loose a scoring rampage in the second quarter with 23 points to the Bucks making only 5 points, which included another three-pointer from Arellano in the mix. The score at the half was 21- 41.

At the beginning of the second half, Arellano made another three-pointer for the Bucks and then added another bucket. Nathan Lechner #13 let loose a three-pointer of his own that quarter. Another bucket was made before the quarter ended and the score was 31- 56. The Bucks had made 10 points and had kept the Mustangs somewhat contained with only 15 points that quarter.

In the final quarter of play, the Bucks had contributions from Arellano, Jerry Lawson #35, Lechner and Kason Knight #20 for 13 more points against 16 points made by the Mustangs and the final score of 44-72.

The Mustangs had interrupted the Bucks rhythm by grabbing passes and anticipating the play going forward and beat the Bucks on the rebounds, which Lawson and Arellano had usually dominated in previous games.

The City View Mustangs sit at the top of District 7. The Bucks are 2-2 in District 7 with losses to Holliday and City View and wins against Jacksboro, 50-41 and a close win against Henrietta, 59-58.

The Bucks will be home to host the Holliday Eagles Friday, Jan. 22, who they lost to in their first District 7 matchup back on December 30, with a score of 25-62.
