The Buckaroos traveled to the Mustang Bowl at Sweetwater for their penultimate game of the regular season and were unable to generate much momentum, ultimately losing 44-0 to the Mustangs.

The loss that occurred Friday, Oct. 31 dropped the Bucks' overall season record to 3-6 and 1-3 in district play.

The Bucks went three-and-out after receiving the opening kickoff and it didn’t take long for the Mustangs to get on the scoreboard. Just over five minutes into the first quarter, Rohyn Price caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Caiden Ortiz.

After punting again on the ensuing drive, the Bucks allowed a 50-yard touchdown run from Nick Avila with just over four minutes left in the quarter.

An interception of Joseph Juneau led to a Sweetwater field goal as they led 17-0 to end the first quarter.

The Bucks were able to move the ball downfield on their first drive of the second quarter, aided by a one-handed catch by Ryan Waller at the Sweetwater 35-yard line. However, the drive stalled and an incomplete pass to Cooper Wimberley towards the end zone on fourth down turned the ball back over to the Mustangs.

The Bucks got some pressure on the quarterback to force the first punt of the day for Sweetwater, and again moved the ball down the field on the ensuing drive. Juneau was then picked off in the end zone, though, by Jose Quintero on a fourth-down pass intended for Waller.

The Mustangs capitalized and scored on a 37-yard touchdown catch from Darwin Blueford.

At halftime, the Bucks trailed 23-0.

The Mustangs drove back down the field to open the second half and scored on a four-yard touchdown run from Mason Blueford.

Juneau was picked off again on the next drive, this time by Cason Fields. Sweetwater capitalized immediately, getting a 51-yard touchdown catch from Amare Arevalo as their lead was up to 37-0.

Hudson Woodward came in at quarterback for the next Breckenridge drive, in which the Bucks turned the ball back over with good field position as they failed a fake punt attempt.

A trick play from Sweetwater led to the final touchdown of the day with just over a minute to go in the third quarter.

“It wasn’t a very good football game; we took a buttkicking,” coach Casey Pearce said. “We didn’t respond very well whenever they started punching us in the mouth. We better figure it out.”

The Bucks face SATLCA to conclude the regular season Friday, Nov. 7 before going into the playoffs.

“Take care of us. It’s the things we’ve been doing for the last nine weeks, so we've got to continue to do that stuff,” Pearce said of what they have to work on before the playoffs.

Waller made the most of his very slim opportunities, recording three catches on five targets for 60 yards.

“Number one, the quarterback’s got to get it out. Number two, we've got to get it blocked up, and we’ve got to create something in the run game so we can play pass and get him the football,” Pearce said.
