Bucks slay Henrietta Bearcats

The Bucks played the Henrietta Bearcats Tuesday, Feb. 2 and won convincingly, 66-49. The Bucks started behind by a bucket at the end of the first quarter 12-14. Arellano had two three-pointers and two buckets and Lawson added a bucket.

In the second quarter, the Bucks scored 20 points to the Bearcats 12. Lechner had the hot hand that quarter by contributing two buckets and a three-pointer. Additionally, Jayton Hash had a three-pointer, Lawson had his second bucket, Rodgers had a foul shot, Jonas had a bucket and Castillo had a bucket and a foul shot. The Bucks led at the half 32-26.

In the third quarter, the Bucks were limited to 16 points and allowed only 11 for the Henrietta Bearcats, to lead 48-37. The Bearcats demonstrated some frustration and the Bucks were awarded two technical calls which allowed Lechner to make two of the three shots and another Buck teammate to add one of the two shots from the charity stripe. Coach Brent Lucas took a time out at that time to allow things to cool down. Jonas was limited to two buckets that quarter, Lechner had a bucket and two foul shots, Rodgers had a bucket and Castillo had a bucket and a foul shot.

The fourth quarter was a flurry of buckets by Jonas Arellano #14 with three buckets during the final 18 seconds of the fourth quarter. Twenty-two 22 points were scored in that quarter with buckets from Jerry Lawson #35, Anson Rodgers #24, Nathan Lechner #13, Zeke Castillo #10 and the final three by Arellano.

Arellano was the leading scorer, with Lechner not far behind. It was a real team effort with additional scoring from Lawson, Rodgers, Hash and Castillo.

The final game of the season will be at home against the Bowie Jackrabbits. The Bucks lost 40-65 to the Jackrabbits in the first half of the season.
