Bucks smother Nocona Indians

Wed, 05/05/2021 - 5:00 am

The Bucks took care of business in a big way Tuesday, April 27, when they drove right through the Nocona Indians and won (12-2). The ‘Ten-Run Rule’ was invoked at the end of the sixth inning when the Bucks had collected four more runs to the already (8-2) score.

Prior to the game, there were three seniors who needed to be honored as departing BHS students and the Breckenridge Buckaroos. The trio included Jonas Arellano #3, Evan Moore #8 and Robert Duncan #19.

The Bucks’ also needed to recognize Jonas Arellano as the Valedictorian and Evan Moore as the Salutatorian for the graduating class of 2021. Congrats fellows! Way to go!

The Bucks collected three runs in the very first inning. Ayden Reyes #13, the Bucks’ catcher, cracked the bat on a hard line drive through second, which enabled freshman Christian Arellano #16 and senior Evan Moore #8 to score the first two runs for the Bucks. Next, Camden Escalon #12 hit on a line drive into center field, which allowed Jonas Arellano to score and the Bucks led (3-0) at the end of the first inning.

The Bucks continued the onslaught and added four more runs in the second inning. Senior Robert Duncan #19 got on base when the pitcher hit him with the ball on the next pitch. C. Arellano singled on a line drive over the head of the shortstop and out to center field, which pushed Duncan on to the second. Next, Evan Moore hit a line drive into left field, which allowed Duncan to hustle on home to make the score (4-0). J. Arellano hit into left field after passing the third baseman. Ayden Reyes, the Bucks catcher, hit a fly ball out to center field, which was caught, but J. Arellano thought he could tag up at 3rd and beat the throw to the catcher. Arellano was right and he raced to home plate and beat the throw and the score was now (5-0).

The Bucks had added four more runs in the bottom of the second inning but only added one run in the bottom of the third inning to make the score (9-0). J. Arellano had driven a line drive into left field which allowed Moore to score the 8th run, with zero response from the Indians.

The Bucks went scoreless in the 4th and 5th innings, but in the bottom of the sixth, they collected four more runs. Moore got to first base on a single and was followed by a solid hit toward 2nd by J. Arellano and an error by the 2nd baseman allowed Arellano to go on to 2nd and the other runner to advance to third which was Cayden Carr. Ashton Reyes #4 sent a hard-hit ball to right field and that allowed Carr to score.

At that point, Nocona sent in a third pitcher to see if he could stop the Bucks from getting any more base hits. Next, it was Kason Knight who hit a sacrifice ball out to right field and made the second out, but in the process, Davila tagged up and scrambled to home plate and another run for the Bucks and it is (10-2).

The final nail in the coffin was Kaden Garcia’s double on a fly ball to right field and two more scored and it was (12-2). The 10-Run-Rule was invoked and the game was over and the Bucks had won their last District 7 game.

The Bucks ended the regular season in third place with a (7-4) District 7 record behind Holliday (7-1) and Bowie with a (9-3) record for the season.

The Bucks are slated to play Early in 6-3A, which has an (11-3) record. and is second to Brock with a (7-0) record. The Bucks are set to play on May 7, but the time has not been determined.
