District realignment and the Buckaroos

Tue, 02/18/2020 - 9:31 am

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) has released its realignment for the district around the state for the next two years. The adjustment will see the Breckenridge Buckaroos basketball and volleyball teams continue in Conference 3A District 7.

The team will see new competition from five teams as Jacksboro and Breckenridge will be the only teams remaining in the district.

The Buckaroos will face teams such as Bowie, Henrietta, Holliday, Nocona and Wichita Falls ISD. These teams are an average of 100 miles away, as Nocona will be the furthest school the Buckaroos will travel to.

“It will be interesting because we don’t match up with these teams often so it’s new terrain for us. I think it should be fun because we’ll play new coaches, teams, and travel to new places. Every road game is an hour plus away so it will be important to stay on a routine,” Head varsity basketball coach Colby Hartfield said.

The Breckenridge football team will move from Conference 3A District 7 to Conference 3A District 3.

The Buckaroos will battle the same teams in district play such as Clyde, Early, Tuscola, and Wall Independent School District.

The Conference 3A District 3 has removed Eastland and added the Texas Leadership Charter Academy (TLCA), San Angelo. San Angelo is about 150 miles away and will be the team’s furthest district competition.

The change is expected for the upcoming seasons of Buckaroos sports.
