Lady Buckaroos rest, refocus after Graham loss

Wed, 08/30/2017 - 12:44 pm

The Breckenridge High School Volleyball Team took spent last week recuperating from a tough front end of its pre-district schedule.

The Lady Buckaroos took a break away from action following last Tuesday’s three-set loss to the undefeated Graham Lady Blues (25-11, 25-8, 25-10), which allowed them to refocus before facing a host of potential state championship contenders in the next few weeks.

“We’re ready to move forward. This week gave us a lot of time to prepare and work on defense, blocking and try to improve our offense a little bit,” Breckenridge coach Jeana Yarbrough said. “They have to see [elite teams] so we will be ready for them. As far as Graham, they were the best we’ve seen all year, even after the Bev Ball — the quickness of their offense, their arm swings. As the game wore on, our girls started picking up with their speed a little bit and adapted to what’s going on and will be able to use that.”

With the loss, the Lady Buckaroos fell to 3-12 and the schedule will remain difficult with the 14-2 Hawley Lady Bearcats coming to town Tuesday, then Jim Ned (2-7) Saturday. They will wrap pre-district play against 2A state contender Archer City Sept. Despite suffering a tough loss last Tuesday senior defensive specialist Aylin Saucedo said she can see her team improving with each game.

“Our block did pretty good. It’s definitely improved a lot,” Saucedo said. “Our serves have gotten way better ... We’re definitely making progress.”
