The Breckenridge Lady Bucks varsity basketball season is over.

To say that the Lady Bucks ran straight into a whirlwind Monday night, Feb. 11, at Mineral Wells, is an understatement.›

The Lady Bucks played the Nocona Lady Indians and had barely gotten their footing by the fourth quarter. Morgan Hash (2) of the Lady Bucks made the first basket and the Lady Bucks led 2-0 and that was the last time the Lady Bucks would be in the lead. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 5-19 in favor of the Lady Indians. Hash had made that first bucket and then a three-pointer to cover the points for the Lady Bucks. The Lady Bucks had several steals by Carly Tennison (15), Alyssa Reyes (5), Aaliyah Lawson (24) and Mariah Baladez (12) but couldn’t convert them into points at the other end.

The Lady Bucks finally added two foul shots and Reyes added another to make the score move to 8-24. Meanwhile, the prolific shooter for the Lady Indians was pouring in three-pointers and buckets left and right.

Tennison popped in a basket followed by one from Kylee Willis (22) and both collected foul shots. Willis then got another foul shot and at the half the score was 15-41.

The Lady Bucks clearly missed Madison Stanley, who went out in the third quarter of the Brock game last week, with a poppedout collarbone requiring surgery. The baskets usually made by the Lady Bucks were not going in the basket.

The third quarter demonstrated lots of hustle from all the Lady Bucks and by the end of the third quarter, the score was 26-57. Reyes had two baskets and Willis had one and foul shots, which was preceded by buckets by Baladez, Lawson and Alexis Navarro (35) and one by Nayeli Hernandez (35).

The Lady Bucks seemed to find their shooting legs in the fourth quarter, with foul shots made by Baladez, Hernandez and Tennison, who sunk a three pointer. Navarro also added another bucket. Tennison finished with foul shots to make the final score 36-74.

One player from the Lady Indians had made 38 points, which was the final margin of the game. However, the Lady Bucks had a fantastic season with many squeakers, both wins and close loses.

Congrats to the Lady Bucks and Chris Robertson, Lindsey Neeb and Donnie Funderburg for a great season and we look forward to what the girls do next year. Tennison, Young, Reyes and Hash all made considerable contributions to the Lady Bucks basketball program this season.

The Lady Bucks ended with an 8-6 record in District 7-3A and an overall record of 19-14.
