The Lady Bucks traveled to Gordon High School to compete in the Holiday Ford Classic, facing off against the Gorman Lady Panthers and Gordon Lady Longhorns.
In the games that took place Thursday, Nov. 13, the Lady Bucks lost to the Lady Panthers, 41-30, before losing 80-25 to Gordon in the second game.
The first game started slow for both teams, as Breckenridge trailed just 5-4 after the first quarter of play. LaKyla Bartley scored three of the points in the quarter on a layup off an assist from Preslie Malcuit following a steal and a free throw. The other point came from a free throw from Analia Palacios.
Both teams had plenty of shot opportunities in the quarter, but were struggling to get them to fall.
In the second quarter, both offenses started seeing more shots fall as the Gorman lead was extended out to 23-15 at halftime. The Lady Panthers got to the free throw line on numerous occasions throughout the quarter, hitting 11 of 14 shots at the charity stripe. The other seven points came from two fast break layups and a three-pointer.
The scoring that the Lady Bucks saw in the quarter was two of four free throws from Nevaeh Johnson, a putback shot from Paisley Thibodeaux, a three-pointer and two of four free throws from Palacios and two of two free throws from Kyra Canada.
The Lady Bucks were outscored, 13-6, as the Lady Panthers lead was out to 36-21 in the third quarter. Scoring for Breckenridge was Bartley on a two-point jumper, Canada on a putback and Malcuit on a putback.
Bartley started the scoring in the final quarter by knocking down a three-pointer from the top of the key, and Malcuit shortly after hit a two-point shot. Later on, Bartley hit both of her free throws from the line, followed by Palacios getting one of two free throws and a bank shot.
The Lady Bucks struggled to contain the Lady Longhorns’ scoring chances in the second game, trailing 25-4 after one quarter. Palacios and Canada contributed to the scoring, the former hitting two free throws and the latter scoring a two-point shot.
The Lady Longhorns continued to score in bunches in the second quarter with 19 points, while the Lady Bucks added double digits with 10 points. Johnson and Bartley each knocked down a three-pointer, while the latter and Victoria Martinez each added a two-pointer. At half, Breckenridge trailed 44-10.
The Lady Bucks managed only two points in the third quarter on two free throws from Thibodeaux. In the final quarter, Johnson scored five points on a two-pointer and a three-pointer, Thibodeaux added a two-pointer and Malcuit hit two free throws.
The Lady Bucks will host Vernon for their next game Tuesday, Nov. 18, junior varsity at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6:15 p.m.
