Lady Bucks dominate Lady Panthers 45-19

The Lady Bucks varsity basketball team started the game against the Paradise Lady Panthers with a layup from Madison Stanley (10). On the defensive end of the court there were multiple steals that generated two quick points and then two more and the score was 6-0 before one could turn their head.

Alyssa Reyes (5), who is the floor general that keeps all the moveable parts working, grabbed a rebound and fired a ball to Carly Tennison

(15), who promptly shot a three-pointer with 2:30 in the first quarter and the score was suddenly 9-0. That changed slightly when the Lady Panthers got a quick foul shot and the score went to 9-1. Stanley rebounded a ball, got fouled in the process but made no points. Tennison added another bucket for two points and a foul shot for a 12-1 score at 1:04 of the first quarter.

Mariah Baladez (12) entered the game and was fouled and she sent one to the basket. At the end of the first quarter of play, the score was 13-1.

The second quarter began with the starting lineup including Reyes, Morgan Hash (2), Tennison, Stanley and Kylee Willis

(22). Willis went right to work and blocked a Lady Panther shot but managed to get a foul against Willis. The Lady Panther made the foul shot and the score went to 13-2 at 6:23 in the second quarter. Stanley quickly popped in a bucket for two points for a 15-2 score.

Reyes got a steal and added two more points to the mix for a 17-2 score with six minutes in the second quarter. Before we could re-focus, Tennison had sunk a three-pointer and the score went to 20-2. Stanley got a block on a Panther shot and Tennison swept in for the steal and hustled down the floor. She got a foul shot out of that play and set the score at 20-3, at 4:10 in the second quarter.

Before fans could turn back to the opposing court, Reyes sank basketball for two more points and the score immediately went up to 22-3. Paradise picked up two points to crack five, and got a foul shot to boot. The first half ended with the Lady Bucks in charge, 22-6.

As the second half began, the Lady Bucks sunk two baskets, one of those by Reyes to make it 26-6. Then, Tennison dropped in another shot and it was now 28-6, with 5:30 in the third quarter. Then Willis› got another steal but no points, at 5:28 but she turned that around and got another steal and this time added a bucket. Tennison also got two foul shots added, with five minutes left in third quarter and the score was now 32-6.

Most of the starters were back in the game at the start of the second half, which included Stanley, Willis, Reyes, Tennison and Baladez, who was in for Hash.

Reyes fired a pass to Tennison and she put in another layup after three quick passes, with 3:37 remaining in the third period, which elevated the score to 34-6. Stanley had another steal but no points but Paradise finally added a bucket, at 2:32 for a score of 34-8.

Stanley added a foul shot and Lawson picked up two points. Lawson had gone in for Willis. Additionally, Hash went back in the game to join Reyes, Stanley and Baladez.

During the fourth quarter, the Paradise Lady Panthers had picked up another two points and a foul shot. Also in the fourth quarter, the Lady Bucks Varsity was ahead 35-11. In a rapid fire› approach, the Lady Bucks got two buckets from Baladez and another bucket from Lawson, when she went in for Stanley, at 3:16 of the fourth quarter.

By the end of the fourth, Baladez added two more points for a final score of 45-19 and a victory for the Lady Bucks. The overall record for the Lady Bucks is 14-10 and the district record is 5-2. The Lady Bucks played the Brock Lady Eagles on Friday, Jan. 11, there, and hosted the Jacksboro Lady Tigers, with the Lady Bucks JV at 5 p.m. and the Lady Bucks varsity played at 6:15.
