Two Breckenridge Lady Bucks’ volleyball athletes and four cross country runners–one that was also selected for volleyball–were selected to the recently announced academic all-state teams from the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA).

The THSCA announced the 2025-26 academic all-state teams for cross country, team tennis, volleyball and water polo Wednesday, Nov. 19. This award recognizes students from 14 different U.I.L sports who excel in three categories: grade point average, class rank and ACT/SAT performance.

In volleyball, Preslie Malcuit and Lane Bartoskewitz were each selected to the second team.

Bartoskewitz also earned a spot on the second team for cross county, along with her running mates Lizandra Rubio and Abbigail Duran. Sayler Townson earned an honorable mention selection.

The criteria that student-athletes must meet in order to be eligible for a nomination is: be an athlete, student trainer or manager in good standing with the team; be of good moral character; be a senior and have an overall GPA of 92 or above.

The deadline for nominations in football is Monday, Dec. 1 and that academic all-state team will be announced after nominations are reviewed by the THSCA. According to the THSCA, the students receive points based on each criteria and the total number of points determines which team they are placed on.

The best team a player can make is the elite team which requires a near perfect score in all categories. Following the elite team is first team, second team and honorable mention.
