The Lady Bucks came out on the losing end of their basketball game against the No. 2 team in District 7-3A, the Jacksboro Lady Tigers, 39-43.

The game started out with a bad omen as Kylee Willis (22) missed the tip for the first time against a girl decidedly taller than she, but Willis usually has a spring in her jump to compensate for any difference in height.

All that aside, the Lady Tigers got two foul shots right out of the gate, 0-2.› Willis got down to business with a steal and two points in the basket to get the Lady Bucks started scoring, making it 2-2.›The Lady Tigers gathered in another foul shout to bring it to 2-3.

Morgan Hash (2) had a rebound followed by a Madison Stanley (10) steal,›but no points. Then Hash rimmed out from her corner shot that she has been consistent with all season, but couldn’t sink it this time. That was followed by Carly Tennison

(15) getting a bucket from a steal and a quick basket for a 4-3 score.

The Lady Tigers added two more points and then Stanley plopped in another one of her three-pointers for a 7-3 score. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 13-12 with a slim lead for the Lady Bucks.

Mariah Baladez started out the second quarter with a quick bucket and a foul shot for a 16-15 score as the Lady Tigers scooped in and got a basket to make it 16-17.

Then, it was time for another Stanley three-pointer to make it 19-17 and she followed that up with a two-pointer for 21-17. The Lady Tigers picked up a bucket and a foul shot to make it›21-20 and then the Lady Tigers put up another bucket, 21-22, at the half, with a slim lead by the Lady Tigers.

Despite the number two ranking in the district, the Lady Bucks were nearly behind them in fourth place and were hanging with the Lady Tigers, who had the height advantage from three of their starters, who seemed made a habit of camping out in the key with no referee calls against them.

The Lady Bucks came out for the second half and the hot hitters of the first half seemed to go cold in the third quarter, allowing the Lady Tigers to jump ahead 23-29 and then to 23-35 by the end of the third quarter.

Finally, Stanley dropped in a three-pointer, her third of the night, to make it 26-35. Tennison followed that up with a bucket of her own and two foul shots to make it 30-35 then another bucket dropped for the Lady Bucks and it was 32-35.›The Lady Bucks were closing in by 3:18 of the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, the Lady Bucks were keeping the Lady Tigers from scoring for an extended period.

Finally, at 3:06 of the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers got a bucket to take the lead more convincingly at 32-37.

At 2:49, the Lady Tigers took in another bucket for a 32-39 score, but the Lady Bucks were right there with another three pointer and a foul shot to make it 36-41, because the Lady Tigers had plopped in their own three-pointer.

The Lady Tigers added an additional basket and the Lady Bucks added another three pointer, ending the game there at 39-43. The Lady Bucks spurt of baskets was just a bit late and not quite enough to take the game away from the Lady Tigers of Jacksboro.

The Lady Bucks played away Friday, Jan. 18, at Peaster, to face the number one team in District 7-3A, beating them 47-41. They now have a 15-12 record overall and are 5-4 in District. They followed that with a home game against Tolar on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The Lady Bucks JV Green won their game against the Jacksboro JV quite well, at 31-23.
